Tailor / Garment Maker

About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and creative Tailor / Garment Maker to join the Abstitch team. This is more than a traditional tailoring role. You'll work on everything from clothing alterations and repairs to bespoke garment construction, pattern making, creative upcycling and garment restoration.
Working alongside our embroidery and print teams, you will help create high-quality garments, branded apparel and unique upcycled pieces, combining craftsmanship, creativity and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out high-quality clothing alterations, repairs and restorations.
- Construct bespoke garments from scratch using patterns and customer specifications.
- Draft and modify patterns where required.
- Cut fabrics accurately and work with a wide range of materials.
- Transform existing garments and surplus textiles into unique, high-quality products.
- Apply creative repair techniques, including visible mending, embroidery and decorative finishes.
- Operate industrial sewing machines and garment production equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain excellent standards of workmanship, quality and finishing.
- Work collaboratively with the embroidery and print teams to deliver customer projects on time.
Skills & Experience
We're looking for someone who has:
- Experience as a Tailor, Garment Maker or similar role.
- Excellent sewing, garment construction and alteration skills.
- Experience using industrial sewing machines and overlockers.
- Pattern cutting or pattern adaptation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
- A creative approach to garment making, reconstruction and upcycling.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A portfolio of garments you have made, altered, restored or upcycled would be an advantage.
