DSF Refractories and Minerals Ltd is an independent refractory manufacturer and processor of refractory minerals, based in the Peak District of Derbyshire.
We are specialist suppliers to the Glass Industry and have a wide range of products used in most heat containment industries including; Petrochemical production, Carbon Black, Steel, Lime kilns and many other specialist applications. DSF is the largest shaped refractory manufacturer in the UK, and is recognised as one of the world's leading suppliers of bonded refractories for the glass industry.
The company was established over 130 years ago. Our UK plant capacity is currently about 50,000 tonnes per year, with an annual turnover of about £22 million.
DSF employs around 140 skilled and experienced people in our Derbyshire factory and consider our employees to be one of the major attributes of the company.
Purpose of the job
To undertake an apprenticeship as a Die Setter leading to a nationally recognised qualification and accreditation.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with engineering drawings to produce steel dies.
2. Machining.
3. Welding and Fabricating.
4. Building and stripping steel dies for brick presses.
5. Reading and creating engineering drawings.
6. Working to tight dimensional tolerances.
7. To become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of machinery and tools including, but not restricted to, conventional handheld tools and CNC turning and milling, grinding and drilling.
8. Measurement and inspection techniques using a variety of metrology equipment.
9. Attendance at college by day release leading to recognised NVQ qualifications.
10. Carrying out such tasks and duties as directed by your Team Leader which are calculated to contribute to the requisite levels of performance and competence.
