In this rewarding role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to support the Team Manager in leading our work with:

Adults with mental health needs, supporting them to live gloriously ordinary lives

People being discharged from psychiatric hospitals, supporting independence and connection to community

Young people preparing for adulthood, helping them navigate life’s transitions with confidence and care

People at risk of being, or who have been, involved with the criminal justice system, working alongside them to understand their experiences, build trusting relationships, and co-produce plans that promote safety, independence, and long-term change

About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Team Manager to join our Mental Health service within Adult Social Care. This is a fantastic opportunity to provide leadership and operational management support to a dedicated and passionate team delivering high-quality, person-centred social work for adults and carers.
As an Assistant Team Manager, you will:

Provide direct line management, supervision, and coaching to social workers.

Support the Team Manager in managing the team’s work in line with the Care Act 2014 and wider legal frameworks, as well as our internal Waiting Well Policy.

Champion relational, strengths-based and person-centred practice, and ensure safeguarding interventions are timely and effective.
-
Contribute to quality assurance, performance monitoring, and service development.

Represent the service at meetings and deputise for the Team Manager when required.
-
Work collaboratively with partners across health, housing, and voluntary sectors to achieve the best outcomes for adults and carers.
What We’re Looking For
-
A Social Work England registered social worker with significant post-qualification experience.
-
An Approved Mental Health Professional, or eager to train
-
Proven experience in mental health social work with adults, families and carers
-
Strong management and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
-
Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act 1983, Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Human Rights Act 1998.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, IT and communication skills.
You will:

Be dedicated to working with adults with mental health needs and their carers / families

Be passionate about relational, strengths-based working
-
Be able to demonstrate you can form good working relationships with colleagues and alongside service providers, partners and commissioners

Have strong interpersonal, communication and IT skills
-
Be a Practice Educator, Best Interests Assessor or Approved Mental Health Professional.

Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
