Role Overview
We are looking for a Debtor Analyst to join a Credit Control team of 3, reporting into the Finance Manager. The role supports a busy accounts receivable function across a wide range of customers, from major UK retailers to smaller independent businesses.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. A positive, tenacious and team-focused approach is essential, alongside strong communication, organisation and attention to detail. Experience of working with a large volume of financial data is essential. Credit control and debt management experience is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided for the right candidate.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts Receivable & Reconciliations
Reconcile self-bill customer accounts and complete monthly and weekly customer statement reconciliations.
Post cash accurately and reconcile platform accounts such as PayPal and eBay.
Develop monthly debt/risk reporting for large retail accounts.
Customer Payments & Debt Management
Ensure customer payment processes are understood and actioned to support prompt payment and discrepancy resolution.
Pursue overdue debt in an effective and timely manner, escalating customer disputes internally where required.
Review and report aged debt, providing clear actions to support cash collection and debt reduction.
Ensure customers pay promptly into the correct bank accounts.
Credit Risk, Insurance & Compliance
Work with credit insurers to support insurance compliance and maximise recovery on debt defaults.
Determine customer credit limits and ensure debt compliance is monitored and reported.
Support compliance with invoice financing processes and ensure audits are clear and well controlled.
Review financial statements, credit reports and external credit data to help assess customer credit risk.
Systems, Customer Accounts & Process Control
Open and amend customer accounts on Sage and Sage X3.
Support the month-end process, including relevant reconciliations and reporting requirements.
Process online card payments and support order release activity.
Promote best practice across all credit control processes and maintain a fully reconciled debtors ledger.
Commercial Collaboration & Risk Awareness
Work closely with the commercial team to evaluate credit limits, customer risk and debt resolution actions.
Adapt the approach to risk and credit evaluation depending on the requirements of different customer types.
Evaluate bad debt risk and take appropriate action.
Detect and help avoid customer fraud on smaller customer accounts.
Key Skills & Behaviours
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy, particularly when handling cash posting and reconciliations.
Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage a busy workload and competing deadlines.
Confident Excel user, with the ability to use VLOOKUPs and pivot tables extensively.
Positive, tenacious and can-do approach, with confidence to resolve issues and escalate where needed.
Team player who interacts well with the wider Finance Team and commercial colleagues.
Analytical mindset, able to understand financial statements and assess credit risk.
Experience & Qualifications
Experience of working with a large volume of varying customer data is essential.
Accounting experience of around 2 years is preferred but not essential where the candidate has an adequate skill set.
Experience using Sage and Sage X3 is desirable.
Experience with credit reports and tools such as Creditsafe, Dun & Bradstreet and Experian is beneficial.

Large corporate accounts operate within their standard operating procedures.
Cash is posted accurately and customer accounts remain fully reconciled.
Customers pay promptly into the correct bank accounts and overdue debt is pursued in a timely manner.
Customer disputes are actioned quickly and escalated appropriately when needed.
Invoice financing audits are clear and compliant.
The wider Finance Team is supported through reliable debt control and processes via accurate reporting.
