The role
As Supplier Quality Engineer is supporting the business by deploying the quality strategy. you will support the business by deploying the Quality Strategy. Within your role you will initiate, enable, support, verify, and maintain this strategy.
You will be the prime contact for suppliers on product quality related matters; such as initial supplier and product release, product returns, complaints, requests for (additional) product data, concerns, audit requests and general questions, with a scope of BOM materials, subassemblies and components delivered by suppliers.
Primary duties & responsibilities
- Contributing to secure and improve the quality management system.
- Leading by example on good documentation practice and other elements of ISO 9001, AS 9100 and ISO 13485.
- Clear and concise reporting about all activities.
- Communicating with suppliers on complaints and returned goods. Managing and recording all return goods requests in the appropriate systems including their financial impact.
- Creating and updating inspection templates for goods receipt inspection.
- Analysing the rejects from manufacturing on purchased goods and making decisions on justification of the reject (in or out specification) and communicate this to the supplier.
- Converting NCRs into a SCAR when appropriate and managing the follow-up with the supplier.
- Initiating a quality strategy for new materials and performing first article inspections.
- Performing supplier audits, both initial and regular.
- Managing change requests to and from suppliers including end-of-life situations.
- Contributing to engineering and R&D in development projects / changes by matching supplier performance versus product, process, and volume requirements.
- Monitoring supplier performance and quality of incoming materials and components.
- Reviewing product specifications sent to suppliers on completeness and consistency.
- Performing First Article inspection(s) after changes and when all requirements are met, releasing the goods to manufacturing.
- Authorising the release of non-conforming supplier materials/components, based on investigations / risk assessment and rational following the NCR procedure within the QMS system.
- Producing monthly reports showing defects per month, pareto of the top issues and timing plan for addressing these.
- Producing a weekly / monthly status report for management to understand current status of activities.
- Undertaking supplier development activities where required.
- Travelling to suppliers to investigate quality problems, conduct audits and improvement activities when required.
The ideal will person will demonstrate:
Essential:
- 3+ years of direct involvement in quality management in an industrial manufacturing and product development setting, preferably in the medical, automotive, aeronautics and/or space industry.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledgeable regarding ISO9001 / ISO13485 / AS 9100 and other relevant standards.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with customers, suppliers, and co-workers.
- Must have demonstrable organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Practical knowledge of engineering.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in the Electronics PCBA Manufacturing industry
- Whilst not essential, holding a Bachelors’ degree from a university of applied sciences, preferable in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is desirable
- Ideally holds IPC qualifications IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610.
- Lean Six Sigma qualified to yellow or green belt.
- Experience in inspection, including first article inspection.
