The Role
As a Senior Mission Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in developing next-generation mission data capabilities that support future defence systems and operational effectiveness.
Day-to-day, you'll work as part of our Mission Solutions team, supporting the development of mission data products, data-driven tools and automated processes that improve how mission data is generated, managed and exploited. Initially, your focus will be on working with large and complex datasets, developing databases and data structures, and creating software solutions that help automate mission data production activities. As the capability evolves, you will contribute to the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies to enhance mission data processes and support the design of future defence systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing and enhancing mission systems through modelling, analysis and systems engineering techniques
Designing, developing and integrating software solutions using tools such as Python, SQL and other data-focused technologies
Supporting the development and evaluation of AI, Machine Learning and data-driven applications within operational environments
Conducting test, evaluation and performance analysis activities to support capability development
Contributing to the development of mission planning systems and mission data products
Undertaking research into emerging technologies to inform future mission systems and operational concepts
Essential experience of the Senior Mission Systems Engineer:
Demonstrable experience in data engineering, database development, software development, systems engineering or algorithm development
Experience working with large and complex datasets and developing data-driven solutions
Experience using SQL, Python, MATLAB, C++ or similar programming languages
Knowledge of AI, Machine Learning, data analytics or data fusion techniques
Experience of analysis, simulation, test and evaluation activities
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable Experience:
Experience with Mission Data, Intelligence Mission Data (IMD) or MD4IA
Experience within defence, aerospace, intelligence or other highly technical environments

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Lincoln site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.

The Lincoln facility is integral to advancing defence technology and providing innovative solutions to meet the demands of modern military operations. Often working in collaboration with other defence organisations, academia and government agencies to foster innovation and develop integrated solutions and complex defence problems.
