Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Yard Team Leader to oversee daily operations within our logistics and warehouse environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing materials handling, team coordination, and process optimisation to ensure efficient and safe yard activities. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong leadership skills and a solid background in warehouse management and logistics processes. The Yard Team Leader will play a key role in maintaining seamless operations, supporting shipping and receiving functions, and implementing continuous improvements across the yard.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily yard activities, including materials handling, shipping, and receiving operations
- Lead and manage a team of yard operatives, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely
- Oversee the utilisation of forklift trucks and other equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards
- Implement process improvements to optimise workflow, minimise delays, and enhance productivity
- Maintain accurate records using warehouse management systems
- Organise logistics for incoming and outgoing shipments
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate inventory management within the yard
- Conduct regular safety inspections and promote a culture of safety awareness among team members
- Assist in training new staff on procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols
Skills
- Proven experience in warehouse management or logistics roles, with strong knowledge of materials handling techniques
- Mechanical knowledge related to forklift operation and general warehouse equipment maintenance
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently
- Experience with process improvement initiatives within warehousing or logistics settings
- Knowledge of shipping & receiving procedures
- Familiarity with logistics operations involving heavy machinery, forklift trucks, and warehouse safety standards
