Title: Self-Employed part-time Milk Sampler
Location: Ashbourne, Derbyshire
Does being outdoors, travelling between farms, and supporting the dairy industry appeal to you? If so, we want to hear from you!
We’re looking for dedicated, self-employed Milk Samplers to join our team. This role offers the freedom to work across the beautiful countryside, visiting farms and collecting individual cow milk samples throughout the year. If you enjoy being out on farms, witnessing the seasons change, and want flexible work, this role is for you!
NMR (National Milk Records) supports the UK dairy industry by providing essential services like milk testing, recording, and data insights. Our work helps farmers monitor herd health, improve milk quality, and boost productivity, offering valuable information on breeding, nutrition, and disease management.
As a Self-Employed Milk Sampler, you’ll be at the heart of this process, visiting farms to collect milk samples from individual cows over a whole milking. These samples are crucial for NMR to deliver detailed reports, empowering farmers to make informed decisions that keep their herds healthy and their businesses thriving.
What you will be doing:
- Visiting dairy farms to collect milk samples
- Organising sample pots in a numerical order to be sent to the Lab
- Working directly with farmers and dairy herds
- Following farm bio-security procedures
- Travelling between farms within the area
Why You’ll Love This Role:
- Flexible Hours: Milking times are typically early mornings or late evenings, making this role ideal for fitting around other commitments such as work, education, or family. This is a genuine part-time, self-employed role offering flexible working in a field based environment.
- Training Provided: While farm experience is a bonus, it’s not essential as we provide all Self-Employed Contractors with the farm safety processes they need. anyone with previous experience as a Dairy Farm worker or Milker, Agricultural Technician, Agricultural/soil/water Sampler or similar roles would be a great fit but the role is also perfect if you are looking for a change of career or to get into the Dairy Industry.
- Independence & Variety: Enjoy a mix of farm visits across the countryside.
What We’re Looking For:
- Valid driving licence & own transport
- Organised and self-motivated individuals
- An interest in farm life and dairy production
Self-Employed Role:
As a self-employed contractor, you’ll have the autonomy to manage your work independently. Payment for this role is based on herd size, calculated on a per-cow basis, and we’ll discuss the details before you’re allocated to a farm/s.
