Full job description

We are looking for Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join our recovery team within the elective theatre department at Wansbeck General Hospital. This post will also support our emergency stream at the Northumbria Hospital on a weekend and out of hours rota for night shifts and on calls.

Previous recovery experience would be an advantage, however a comprehensive training package is in place for newly qualified staff, or those new to the recovery environment.

The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic and committed to delivering safe, high quality care.

Full time posts ( Part time hours may also be considered)

Delivering excellent standards of care and providing patient support throughout the post-operative phase, advocating on behalf of the dependent patient. Undertaking the role of the recovery nurse ensuring safe practice is maintained and patients have a positive and safe recovery experience when delivering high quality care. Working with, and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Will undertake preparation and monitoring of the recovery environment ensuring all equipment is maintained and in working condition. Supervising junior colleagues, unregistered staff and students within your role and working alongside other wards and departments and other members of the MDT

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care under the direction of the senior nurse/SODP
To assist in the provision of nursing care and maintain high clinical standards
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
Develop over time and contribute to the management of a clinical area and take charge in the absence of Senior Nurse/ODP
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust.
This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates teamworking and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
