Job Title: Health and Safety Coordinator – Stevenage

Job Purpose
The Health and Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the effective delivery of Flamingo’s health and safety strategy at the Stevenage site. Working under the UK Health & Safety Manager and as part of the wider Flamingo UK Health & Safety Team, the role ensures legal compliance, supports risk reduction, and drives continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
The Health and Safety Coordinator will work closely with operational teams to embed safe working practices, promote employee engagement and contribute to the development of a strong, proactive safety culture across the site and wider business.
Team Structure & Collaboration
As part of the Flamingo UK Health & Safety Team, the role will work collaboratively with:
- UK Health & Safety Manager (Lead)
- Flamingo Flowers, Sandy – Health & Safety Coordinator
- Flamingo Flowers & Plants, Weston – Health & Safety Coordinator
Strong cross-site collaboration and alignment are essential to achieving shared safety objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Health & Safety Culture
- Promote and support a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements
- Lead employee engagement initiatives, encouraging participation in near miss reporting and continuous improvement
- Deliver regular toolbox talks and safety briefings to maintain high levels of safety awareness
- Work closely with managers, supervisors and operatives to embed safe systems of work
2. Safety Systems & Compliance
- Support the maintenance and ongoing development of the UK SHE Management System
- Continuously develop, review and update SSOWs and associated health and safety training materials in line with industry standards and best practice
- Prepare and review risk assessments, ensuring hazards are identified and effectively controlled
- Support the Health & Safety Team with customer audits, inspections and policy reviews
- Lead local safety meetings to review KPIs, incidents and corrective actions
3. Accident & Incident Reduction
- Investigate accidents, near misses and unsafe acts, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented
- Carry out incident trend analysis (AFR) in collaboration with the Health & Safety Team to identify areas for targeted intervention
- Monitor the effectiveness of control measures and update risk assessments accordingly
4. Training & Development
- Coordinate health and safety training, inductions and refresher programmes
- Support teams with dynamic risk assessments and safe decision-making
- Share best practice across sites in collaboration with the wider Health & Safety Team
5. Site-Specific Safety & Contractor Management
- Coordinate site-based safety improvement initiatives across operational areas
- Work closely with Engineering and contractors to ensure safe systems of work, inductions, and permit-to-work processes are consistently applied
- Support the collection and review of environmental data, contributing to environmental improvement, waste reduction and sustainability initiatives
6. Cross-Site Collaboration & Teamwork
- Participate in joint Health & Safety meetings with Sandy and Weston sites
- Support cross-site safety events
- Align site-specific safety objectives with wider UK H&S strategy
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally within a manufacturing or operational environment
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice
- Proven experience developing, implementing, and reviewing risk assessments and Safe Systems of Work (SSOWs)
- Experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions
- Competent in the use of health and safety management systems, including accurate record keeping and reporting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, engage, and challenge at all levels
- Ability to work autonomously while aligning with wider H&S and business objectives
- Proactive, organised and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety excellence
- Effective team player, able to collaborate across multiple sites and functions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Full UK driving licence
