Driving Range & Short Game Area Greenkeeper

Purpose of the Role
The Berkshire Golf Club is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and detail-oriented greenkeeper to take ownership of our practice facilities.
This is a specialist role responsible for maintaining the driving range, short game area, practice putting greens and associated landscapes to the highest possible standard. These facilities are often the first and last impression members and visitors have of the club, and their presentation must reflect the exceptional quality of our championship courses.
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their work, notices the small details, and is committed to continual improvement rather than simply completing daily tasks.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily presentation, maintenance and continual improvement of:
- Driving range teeing grounds
- Practice putting greens
- Chipping and pitching greens
- Practice bunkers
- Short game surrounds
- Ball collection areas
- Artificial practice surfaces
- Landscape and ornamental areas surrounding the practice facilities
- Pathways, signage and furniture within the practice area
Daily Responsibilities
- Prepare all practice greens to an exceptional standard.
- Set up practice areas with fresh hole locations, flags and markers.
- Present the driving range to the highest level each morning.
- Carry out mowing, rolling, verticutting and other cultural practices.
- Maintain practice bunkers with consistent presentation and playability.
- Manage divot recovery and turf repairs.
- Collect, wash and maintain range balls.
- Operate and maintain the ball collection system and driving range equipment.
- Irrigate and monitor turf health across all practice facilities.
- Assist with spraying, fertiliser applications and integrated turf management programmes where qualified.
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation throughout the practice facilities.
- Identify issues before they become problems and proactively recommend improvements.
Equipment Operation
The role involves the safe operation and daily maintenance of a wide range of professional turf machinery including:
- Pedestrian and ride-on mowers
- Utility vehicles
- Tractors and implements
- Ball collection machinery
- Rollers
- Aeration equipment
- Hand-held machinery
Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements
- Previous greenkeeping or sports turf experience.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
- A commitment to maintaining exceptionally high standards.
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Sports Turf or Greenkeeping.
- PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates.
- Chainsaw qualifications.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience operating a modern irrigation system.
- Experience with championship golf course presentation.

Pay: £24,420.00-£30,464.45 per year
Education:
- GCSE or equivalent (required)
Experience:
- Greenkeeping: 5 years (required)
Licence/Certification:
- NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf Management (required)
