About NW Pro Ltd
NW PRO is a growing UK technology company developing machine learning, computer vision, simulation and automation systems for the aviation, security, transport and critical-infrastructure sectors.
Our systems combine machine learning, computer vision, sensors, and industrial equipment to solve complex operational challenges through software that we design, develop, and maintain in-house.
Job Overview
We are looking for a capable and motivated graduate or junior software engineer who is eager to develop their skills while contributing to real commercial systems from day one. You'll work alongside experienced engineers on production software, gaining hands-on experience with technologies that have a direct impact on our customers' operations.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing, testing, and maintaining back-end applications and services, primarily in Python, to support our machine learning and industrial automation systems.
- Designing, developing, and maintaining responsive front-end applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern web development frameworks.
- Integrating front-end applications with back-end services and APIs to deliver reliable, end-to-end functionality.
- Developing and deploying software on Linux-based systems, with confidence using the Linux command line, system services, networking, and debugging tools.
- Applying an understanding of software integration principles, including APIs, communication protocols, and the reliable exchange of data between software systems, industrial equipment, and hardware devices.
- Applying software engineering best practices, including version control with Git, code reviews, and collaborative development workflows.
- Writing and maintaining unit and integration tests to help ensure the reliability and quality of software.
- Designing, querying, and maintaining databases, with experience of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, alongside NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB.
- Providing occasional support for customer demonstrations, pilot trials, and on-site deployments.
You will receive support and mentoring from the engineering team, while also being encouraged to investigate problems, suggest solutions, and take increasing ownership of your work as your skills and experience develop.
Essential Skills
We are interested in practical ability and potential, not just commercial experience.
You should have:
- A degree, placement, internship or strong project experience in software engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence or a related subject.
Good programming ability in at least one of the following:
- Python
- C++
- Rust
- Java
- A sound understanding of software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience using Git or another version-control system.
- Basic knowledge of Linux.
- The ability to investigate and solve technical problems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small technical team.
Desirable Skills
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Python development
- Computer vision, image and video processing (e.g. OpenCV, FFmpeg)
- PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV or YOLO
- Multithreading, concurrency or asynchronous programming
- Performance optimisation and memory management
- JavaScript, TypeScript, React or Node.js
- REST APIs and web services
- Docker and containerised applications
- SQL or other database technologies
- NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA or GPU-accelerated processing
- Networking and remote system administration
- Three.js, simulation or 3D visualisation
- CCTV, LiDAR, industrial cameras or other sensors
- PLCs, OPC UA or industrial automation
- Developing software that interfaces with hardware
Personal, university and open-source projects are all relevant. We would rather see something you have built and can explain than a long list of technologies on your CV.
What We Offer
- Mentoring and support from the engineering team.
- Exposure to commercial AI, computer-vision and security projects.
- The opportunity to work across the full software lifecycle and make a visible impact in a small engineering team.
- Meaningful responsibility and project involvement from an early stage.
- Hybrid and flexible working where project requirements allow.
- Opportunities to support customer trials and international projects.
- A friendly and practical working environment.
- The opportunity to work on systems that move beyond prototypes into real operational use.
Who Should Apply
This role may suit:
- A recent computer science or software engineering graduate
- A final-year student with strong practical programming ability
- Someone completing a software engineering placement or internship
- A self-taught developer with a strong portfolio
- A junior engineer looking for broader technical experience
You do not need to meet every desirable requirement. We are primarily looking for someone who can write good software, learn quickly and genuinely enjoys solving technical problems.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Some projects may require background screening, customer-site access and occasional travel within the UK or overseas.
NW PRO is committed to providing equal opportunities and welcomes applications from candidates from all backgrounds.
