Job Purpose
The Machine Operator / Production Operative will be responsible for operating manual and semi-automated machinery within a busy and progressively growing production environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the manufacture of high-quality products while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standards.
Full on-site training will be provided; however, previous experience within a production or metalworking environment is essential. The ideal candidate will possess excellent attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate initiative when solving problems and planning workloads.
A basic understanding of engineering measuring equipment, including verniers, bore gauges, and micrometres, is required. The successful candidate must also be able to comply with all company policies and Health & Safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Operating CNC Hurco Milling Machines.
- Operating CNC XYZ Turret Lathes.
- Operating CNC XYZ Lathes.
- Operating Traub Lathes.
- Carrying out general production and manufacturing duties as required.
- Supporting other departments to ensure production schedules and deadlines are met.
- Conducting quality control checks to ensure products meet company standards.
- Using measuring equipment such as verniers, bore gauges, and micrometres to verify dimensions and tolerances.
- Maintaining a safe and clean working environment in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.
- Reporting any machine faults, quality concerns, or safety issues to management promptly.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and production efficiency.
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Previous experience working within a production, manufacturing, or metal workshop environment.
- Basic understanding and experience using measuring equipment, including:
- Vernier callipers
- Bore gauges
- Micrometres
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding of Health & Safety practices within a manufacturing environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience operating CNC milling machines and lathes.
- Experience working with Hurco, XYZ, or Traub machinery.
- Knowledge of quality control procedures and engineering tolerances.
- Valid UK drivers’ licence
Working Environment
The successful candidate will work alongside engineers, technicians, and other production staff within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. It is important that the individual can perform their duties professionally and reliably while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
The role requires flexibility and a willingness to support other departments where necessary to ensure production targets and customer expectations are achieved.
