Role Summary
We are seeking a Fire Extinguisher (Mechanical) Technician to join our growing fire protection team. This role is responsible for the installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, and servicing of fire extinguishers and related life safety equipment. This role will also provide a career progression route into specialist kitchen fire suppression systems, gaseous fire suppression systems and/or dry riser systems. Candidates with prior fire extinguisher and fire suppression experience are desirable, however, motivated mechanical professionals willing to train and develop in the fire protection industry are encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities: (to include, not exclusive to)
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, inspection, installation and commissioning of portable fire extinguishers and other equipment/systems in accordance with relevant standards, including BS 5306-3, BS 5306-8 and ISO 9001:2015, and FireRite (UK) Ltd’s quality procedures.
- Install, commission and maintain new and existing fire protection equipment and systems as required.
- Undertake customer surveys, assess existing fire protection provisions and provide appropriate recommendations and quotations.
- Identify defective, obsolete or unsuitable equipment and provide appropriate advice and recommendations.
- Complete accurate service records, asset information, certification and other required documentation.
- Provide professional technical advice to customers regarding portable fire extinguishers and other relevant fire protection services.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a standard that satisfies both the customer and the company.
- Consistently achieve agreed performance, productivity and quality targets.
- Ensure the safe delivery and installation of equipment to customers within agreed timescales.
- Keep the Mechanical Department Manager informed of work progress, issues, potential delays and any other matters requiring attention.
- Maintain appropriate van stock, tools, equipment and replacement components to support efficient service delivery.
- Maintain the cleanliness, security and general condition of the company-provided vehicle.
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with customers.
- Promote and support the sale of FireRite (UK) Ltd’s services to new and existing customers where appropriate.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and quality management processes.
Qualifications & Experience (Desirable but Not Essential)
· Previous experience servicing portable fire extinguishers.
· Relevant extinguisher servicing competency/training.
· Good working knowledge of BS 5306-3 and BS 5306-8.
· Experience within a third-party certified fire protection company.
· Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to complete accurate electronic service records and documentation.
· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
· Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and grow within a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to work outside of usual hours where necessary.
· Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to various sites across the UK.
· A desire to undertake further technical training and develop into fire suppression systems.
