General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Retrofit Material Coordinator to join our Supply Chain Team, based in Merthyr Tydfil. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £31,200 to £39,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally.
Joining an established team, the successful candidate will be based out of the GDLS-UK Facility in Merthyr Tydfil. You will report functionally to the production planning manager and your primary responsibility will be to work closely with our SCM, warehouse and production teams to ensure timely, cost-effective management of materials to the shop floor to support the production plans and to manage material control throughout the whole process including reverse logistics, expediting where required. In this position you will take a lead role coordinating and planning the daily workload for a small team within the set area you will take accountability for.
If you were already working in this position, this is what you would have been working on this week:

Releasing all production material requirements to the warehouse for picking in line with the production plan and ensure they are delivered OTIF expediting any late deliveries

Review all material requirements for the forward plan and work closely with the support functions department to resolve any shortage issues

Assist in the preparation of various management and shortage reports and provide regular communication on accuracies/discrepancies, shop floor inventory requirements, material availability and status

Attend and represent the production material control department in all meetings required as part of your standard working day

Process material transactions in the Oracle ERP System

Manage all production works orders in the system ensuring they are fully rolled up as materials are delivered and vehicles move through the production process

Deal with adhoc material requests from the business expediting as required

Maintain accurate documentation such as concession reports and as built documentation throughout the build lifecycle

Validating BOM records against shop floor build plans to identify and resolve and discrepancies
-
Ensuring process instructions are in place for all key tasks that you constantly remain compliant with and maintain whenever there are any changes

Assist with parts movement and tracking both physically and transitionally to and from various locations within the Merthyr Site

Communicate and provide assistance to internal and external customers on vehicle requirements and issues

Assist in inventory, disposition and disposal of scrap and discrepant/rework material

Maintain safe work practices

Coordinating the daily activity of the material coordinators and material runners
-
Support, mentoring and development of material coordinators and material runners
-
Drive continuous improvement activity to make system and process improvements within relevant area

Acts as delegate of authority for planning manager during times of absence/holiday

Accountable for ensuring all standard work tasks for material coordinators and material runners is complete OTIF to the agreed standard

First point of escalation for all material issues relating to area of responsibility

Any other tasks that the planning manager requires support with
To apply for this role, you will require the following:

Experience of operating ERP systems preferably Oracle

Inventory/Material control operating in a manufacturing environment
-
Knowledge of MRP, Bills of Material, Work Orders, Sales Orders

and material transactions within an ERP System preferably Oracle
-
Considerable experience working as a similar production planner / material controller type role.

Practical knowledge of material planning and logistics management

High level of competence with Microsoft Excel and analytical tools

A good understanding of Configuration Control

Strong communication skills being able to communicate effectively at all levels.

Customer focused providing excellent service levels to both internal and external customers

Good understanding of the key principles of continuous improvement and experience of working in a CI environment. Leads change and must have a ‘can do’ attitude

Flexible approach with the ability to work under pressure to changing business needs, managing multiple tasks and working to tight deadlines

Experience of working in a MoD / UK Defence environment

Experience of working in a Customer Support / In-Service environment
-
Qualified / working towards CPIM/CIPS or equivalent qualification
-
Experience of coordinating the day to day activity of a small team
