Full job description

Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week
Division/Department: Practice – Hanley & Co
Location: Staveley, South Lakes

Organisational Profile: The company is a well-established accountancy firm based in Lancaster, providing accounting services to 2,000+ clients via cloud accounting software. The company offer a high-quality service in Bookkeeping, Accounts, Payroll, VAT Returns and Tax Services, as well as offering a wealth of knowledge and advice.

Position Summary: This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and talented individual in our South Lakes office. The successful applicant will need to be able to plan and prioritise their own workload, be able to communicate with clients and colleagues in a professional manner and be a good team player to ensure the team and firm meets its objectives.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Preparing annual accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
Preparing draft tax returns and computations alongside the accounts work
Preparing draft VAT returns
Liaising with clients in a confident and professional manner
Dealing with HMRC in regard to queries and correspondence
Analysing data and producing accurate reports

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

Previous experience of preparing self-assessment tax returns, year-end accounts & corporation tax computations to draft stage
To be studying towards AAT, ACA, ACCA or have equivalent experience
Ability to meet deadlines and be proactive
Attention to detail
Have an aptitude for figures and an interest in business and finance
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
To be motivated and enthusiastic
To be able to work to individual and team targets
To be able to solve problems and provide a professional, punctual, and accurate service to clients
To have strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate, organise and take responsibility for performance
To have a client-focused attitude and commercial awareness within the firm
Have knowledge and experience of using cloud accounting software

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

Have knowledge and experience of using Sage software
