The Application Engineering Technician works with SENKO Application Engineers and the customers. Must have the ability to take verbal technical direction from engineering with minimum questions and move projects forward based on the directions given. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects. Scope of assignments will include writing/editing Engineering Termination Procedures (ETP), new components qualification, and video instructions creation. This person will support assignments from idea generation and proof-of-concept prototypes, through the assembly and testing process. Executes projects to fulfill department goals and objectives in the areas of new product development, cost reduction, DOE, process verification, and process/product enhancements. Take a charge of organizing, filing, labeling the Training Lab and keeping it clean and organized.
Duties
- Knowledge of Fiber Optics connectors and cables, assembly and testing procedures.
- Responsible for fiber handling and processing skills including fiber stripping, Fiber ribbonization, cleaving, crimping, splicing, polishing operations, testing, geometrical and visual connector inspection.
- Understand manufacturing documentation including piece part drawings, assembly drawings, ETPs and Product Specifications.
- Hands-on experience developing and troubleshooting new and existing processes and DOE.
- Follow newly developed procedures to validate fiber system performance and analyze test results.
- Work with contract manufacturers including: training them on Fiber Optic processes, have a telephone and video conferences with support, reviewing and answering their e-mails, supporting customer qualifications and trials, supporting on-site customer issues and complaints.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. Science or Engineering major preferred; other technical degree and/or relevant work-related experience considered
- 2 years’ experience with background in optical fiber cable assembly preferred
- Proficient with computer skills including all MS Office software programs, statistical software and test equipment software required
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes
- Self-motivated, results-oriented personality.
- Strong communication skills: verbal and written.
- Fluency in Spanish preferred
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment collaborating with engineering, and product management.
- 3D CAD knowledge is preferred (Solidworks preferred)
