Pet Shop Team Leader – New Store Opening

Basingstoke | £13.25 | Full-time, Permanent

Love great customer service? Love pets? Help us bring our brand-new store to life.

We’re opening a brand-new pet shop in Basingstoke, and we’re looking for enthusiastic Team Leaders to help make it a success from day one.

This isn't just another retail role. You'll be joining a completely new team, helping to create the atmosphere, standards and customer experience that will define our new store.

Customer experience is at the heart of our business.

We want every customer to feel genuinely welcomed, listened to and looked after. Whether they're picking up their regular essentials or looking for advice on the right product for their pet, we want their visit to be a great one.

We don't sell live pets. Our focus is on great products, knowledgeable advice and exceptional service for pets and the people who love them.

Your role

As a Team Leader, you'll work closely with the Pet Shop Manager to keep the store running brilliantly.

You'll be hands-on, leading by example and making sure our customers and colleagues have a great experience.

You'll:

Lead by example and deliver outstanding customer service every day.
Take time to understand what customers need and help them find the right products for their pets.
Help create a friendly, welcoming environment that customers want to return to.
Develop your pet and product knowledge so you can give customers confident, helpful advice.
Support the Manager with the day-to-day running of the store.
Help achieve sales targets through brilliant service and strong product knowledge.
Make sure the store always looks its best, with great standards of presentation, merchandising and product availability.
Support stock deliveries and replenishment and help maintain accurate stock levels.
Take responsibility for the store when required.
Bring your ideas and enthusiasm to help make our new Basingstoke store a success.

Managing & motivating your team

A big part of being a Team Leader is bringing out the best in the people around you.

You'll help create a positive, supportive environment where everyone understands what's expected of them, feels valued and is motivated to deliver a brilliant experience for our customers.

You'll:

Lead from the front, setting a great example for customer service, teamwork and store standards.
Set clear priorities for the team and make sure everyone knows what they need to achieve during their shift.
Keep the team engaged and motivated, particularly during busy trading periods.
Recognise great performance and celebrate successes.
Coach colleagues in the moment, sharing your knowledge and helping them build confidence.
Give constructive feedback when standards aren't where they need to be.
Support new colleagues through their induction and help them become confident members of the team.
Get to know the strengths of individual team members and help them develop.
Encourage open communication and create an environment where colleagues feel comfortable sharing ideas and asking for help.
Work closely with the Pet Shop Manager to address performance issues and maintain high standards.
Step up and confidently lead the team when the Manager isn't there.

Ultimately, you'll help create a team that enjoys working together, takes pride in the store and genuinely wants to give every customer a great experience.

About you

You might already be a Team Leader or Supervisor, or you could be an experienced retail colleague who's ready to take the next step into leadership.

We're looking for people who:

Genuinely enjoy helping customers.
Know what great customer service looks and feels like.
Enjoy leading, coaching and motivating other people.
Can communicate clearly and confidently with a team.
Lead by example and aren't afraid to get stuck in.
Are comfortable giving feedback and addressing problems when needed.

Can stay organised and calm in a busy retail environment.
Take pride in maintaining high standards.
Are reliable and comfortable taking responsibility.
Have an interest in pets and are excited to learn more about the products we sell.

Pet retail experience isn't essential.

We'll give you the training and product knowledge you need.
