THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has become available within Fresh Futures’ Brian Jackson College Team. We are seeking an enthusiastic Behaviour Lead to join our team.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in working within a team of dedicated Pastoral Leads to collaboratively promote positive behaviour amongst all pupils, helping pupils to overcome barriers to learning. to coach, lead, support and train staff to implement behaviour interventions. To plan, deliver and evaluate the impact of behaviour interventions and to work with external agencies as required in support of our organisation's mission

Why the role exists and overall responsibility

This role is an important and collaborative middle management role that exists to navigate and ensure effective daily operations for pupils and staff throughout the college day.

As a provision that is high in SEN and SEMH it is essential that we work to a Pupil Centered and Nurturing Ethos, recognising behaviour as communication.

This role requires an insightful Behaviour Lead who can embed our approaches when managing challenging behaviour’s and making decisions.

This role is responsible for contributing to whole school effectiveness alongside leading and enabling a support staff team in managing behaviours effectively while upholding our values and committing to our processes.

Main activities

To support and assist pupils in managing their behaviour and in achieving their social and

behavioural targets both in and out of the classroom.

To complete regular action plans/contracts and progress reviews with the pupils.

To have regular contact with parents/carers regarding individual behaviour.

Work with the pastoral team and SLT to improve pupil behaviour.

To lead a small team of learning, behaviour support workers (LBSW) and provide training to

develop behaviour strategies

To introduce regular reports to analyse behaviour and provide trends and patterns to the board

of governors and SLT.

Develop and promote initiatives to improve whole school behaviour.

Coordinate Early help assessments and Team around the family meetings.

Attend and participate in regular meetings and in training and other activities.

To promote school initiatives to promoting community and belonging e.g. assemblies and pupil

leadership.

Be responsible for leading the pupil leadership team meetings and overseeing actions from

meetings.

Be responsible for completion of support plans to schools.

To organise vocational timetables and activities for whole school.

To lead a small team of learning, behaviour support workers (LBSW) and provide training to

develop behaviour strategies.

To provide pastoral support to pupils to ensure overall health and wellbeing e.g. providing

emotional support, encouragement and building self-esteem.

To support teachers with the behavioural management of groups and individuals within the

whole class setting, so that teaching objectives are met, and best use is made of teaching time.

Under direction of the pastoral lead to set clear targets for social and behavioural achievement

of individuals and groups of pupils.

To contribute to the writing and updating of policies and procedures that relate to behaviour.

Safeguarding duties & responsibilities.

Knowledge, training and experience required

Essential Skills

English and Maths at Level 2 / GCSE (Grade C/4 or above).

At least 2 years’ experience within an educational setting, preferably an Alternative Provision or Independent Inclusion School.

At least 2 years’ experience supporting and promoting the learning and wellbeing of children with SEMH and other SEN needs.

Knowledge and experience of SEMH needs affecting children and young people.

Safeguarding Training – Level 1.

Desirable Skills

Experience of leadership and/or management.

Understanding of wider safeguarding frameworks and multi-agency working.

Awareness of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Equality Act (2010).

Experience of contributing to or supporting staff training in SEND practice.

Experience using MIS programmes such as provision mapping tools and CPOMS

Inclusive mindset – champions equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.

Trustworthy and confidential – maintains professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.
