Locksmith / Trainee Locksmith
Location: Eastbourne, East Sussex
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £26,500–£30,000 per year, depending on experience
We’re looking for someone who enjoys practical problem solving, takes pride in doing a job well and likes helping customers.
This role would suit an experienced locksmith, but we’re equally keen to hear from carpenters, joiners, and other skilled tradespeople looking to learn a specialist trade.
As the role will involve a lot of woodworking, please only apply if you have experience in this area, as the role will require a good level of carpentry skills from the outset.
You’ll spend much of your time carrying out locksmith work across the Eastbourne area, but as part of a small team you’ll also help in our shop, workshop and warehouse. Everyone has their own responsibilities, but everyone pitches in when needed.
While mobile locksmith work is the primary focus of the role, we’re a small business and everyone helps wherever they’re needed. Whether it’s serving a customer in the shop, cutting keys, preparing an order or organising stock, we’re looking for someone who’s happy to get involved.
What you’ll be doing
- Carrying out domestic and commercial locksmith work across the Eastbourne area
- Responding to lockouts and other emergency locksmith work
- Installing, repairing and upgrading locks, cylinders and door hardware
- Diagnosing and repairing door and window locking mechanisms
- Key cutting and lock pinning in our workshop
- Advising customers in our shop and over the phone
- Picking, packing and dispatching customer orders
- Receiving deliveries and helping maintain stock accuracy
- Helping keep the shop, workshop and warehouse organised
- Working with colleagues to provide excellent customer service
The role offers a good mix of workshop, shop and on-site work, giving you the opportunity to develop a broad range of practical and customer service skills.
What we’re looking for
We’re far more interested in attitude than ticking every box.
You’ll ideally have:
- A practical background and confidence using hand and power tools
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- A positive, proactive approach to work
- Good attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A full UK driving licence
- The right to work in the UK
Previous locksmith experience is an advantage but isn’t essential.
What matters most is a willingness to learn, a positive attitude and a genuine interest in solving customers’ security problems.
Training & Development
If you’re joining us without locksmith experience, we’ll provide structured, hands-on training, combining day-to-day mentoring with recognised training through the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA).
Training will cover:
- Professional key cutting
- Lock pinning and servicing
- Mortice, cylinder and multipoint lock installation
- uPVC door and window locking systems
- Lock diagnosis and fault finding
- Security product knowledge
- Best practice for domestic and commercial locksmith work
Our aim is to help you develop into a confident locksmith with the practical skills and product knowledge needed to deliver the high standard of service our customers expect.
