Locally Employed Doctor (LAS) - Psychiatry
Fixed-Term Appointment - until August 2027
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and motivated doctor to join our uniquely configured NHS Trust as a Locally Employed Doctor in Psychiatry.
This post is ideally suited to someone with a strong interest in mental health and a passion for psychiatry, particularly those considering future specialist training within the specialty. While this role is not part of a formal training programme, the successful candidate will benefit from access to the same high-quality teaching, supervision, and developmental opportunities.
About the Role:
The post-holder will play an active and valued role within a well-established and highly effective mental health service. Responsibilities will include:
Assessment and ongoing review of patients receiving secondary care interventions
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Contributing to high-quality, patient-centred psychiatric care
Engaging in service development and clinical governance activities

Main duties, tasks & skills required
Clinical Responsibilities:
To attend the inpatient wards and outpatients as required.
To participate in the relevant duty rota as detailed in the section out-of-hours cover arrangements.
Psychiatry:
- To undertake psychiatric assessments and reviews of patients referred to respective services, under direct and indirect consultant or senior psychiatrist's supervision.
- To provide appropriate clinical cover in cases of emergency or urgent clinical need.
- To support a seamless service and continuity of care, especially with the community mental health services.
- To support a patient-centred service, encouraging social inclusion and respecting diversity.
- To work with other clinical staff in achieving high standards of assessment and care for all patients presenting to the service.
- To adopt the Care Programme Approach and support integrated care pathways.
- To carry out HoNOS scoring and PbR clustering in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary teams.
Governance, Education and Teaching:
- To contribute to the teaching programme on site.
- To attend regular teaching seminars held by the Consultants and other medical staff.
- To participate fully in Clinical Audit.
- To attend departmental meetings.

- In line with General Medical Council (GMC) and Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Have evidence of either:
Current employment in a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme
Or
12 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competencies from a UKFPO- affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
Be eligible to work in the UK
Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competencies) by the intended start date.
