The Role
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Care Practitioner (Paramedic) to join our team, working as an autonomous and accountable clinician within a GP setting. The post holder will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care through a holistic approach, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting with a range of acute and same-day conditions.
You will be a key member of the On-Call Team, managing same-day demand and working collaboratively with the wider practice team to ensure safe, effective, and timely patient care. Key Responsibilities:
· Undertake assessment and triage of patients, including same-day demand, providing appropriate treatment or referral to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
· Deliver patient-centred care, offering health advice, promoting self-management, and signposting to relevant community and voluntary services.
· Perform a range of clinical duties, including:
a. Specialist health checks and reviews
b. Recording and interpretation of ECGs and other diagnostic results
c. Clinical investigations and procedures as required
d. Collection of pathological specimens (e.g. blood samples, swabs)
e. Domiciliary (home) visits where appropriate
· Support the delivery of anticipatory care and end-of-life care planning and contribute to community-based services (e.g. chronic disease monitoring in vulnerable populations).
· Provide an alternative model for urgent and same-day home visits within the practice and participate in clinical audit and quality improvement activity.
· Communicate effectively across the practice team and with external organisations to ensure a coordinated, patient-focused service.
· Prescribe and issue medications (where qualified) in line with local and national guidelines, including National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), patient group directions, and practice protocols, working within scope of practice.
· Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with undifferentiated and complex presentations in both clinical and domiciliary settings.
· Conduct holistic clinical assessments, considering both physical and psychological health needs.
· Prioritise and manage acute, complex, and emergency presentations, initiating appropriate interventions.
· Contribute to the achievement of practice and contractual performance targets.
Requirements
· Registered Paramedic with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
· Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant clinical field
· Substantial experience in urgent or emergency care settings (e.g. ambulance service, A&E, urgent treatment centres, or primary care)
· Previous experience in primary care setting is desirable
- Independent Prescriber qualification (or currently working towards) is desirable
· Must have your own vehicle for home visits and maintain the appropriate business insurance on it.
