Full job description

The Engagement and Programmes Manager (freelance) will lead the planning, coordination and deployment of MEA's community engagement and outreach team. They will manage the development and delivery of all MEA’s programmes of work, including partnership and stakeholder management. The postholder will provide leadership to the community engagement team, strengthen strategic partnerships, deliver on data-driven decision-making, ensure MEA's programmes are delivered to a high standard, and support the team in remaining responsive to the needs of Black and Mixed-heritage women and families.

The role combines operational coordination, partnership development, programme oversight and community leadership.

What you'll be doing

You will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of MEA’s community engagement and outreach work. This is a role that brings together programme oversight, partnership development, team leadership and operational coordination.

Your work will include:

Leading and supporting the community engagement team
Managing the development and delivery of MEA’s programmes of work
Building and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders
Making sure community voices inform programme design and organisational priorities
Overseeing monitoring, evaluation, reporting and continuous learning
Helping programmes stay responsive to the needs of Black and Mixed-heritage women and families
Supporting the smooth running of engagement and programme activity

By the end of your first six months, we want to see a team that feels supported, programmes that run more consistently, stronger community participation, and clearer evidence of the difference MEA is making.

Who we're looking for

This role suits someone who is comfortable holding several strands of work at once and making progress without needing constant direction. You’ll be working across home, community and event settings, with regular travel across Birmingham and occasional evenings and weekends when events are on.

We’re looking for someone who understands why culturally competent, inclusive community work matters, and who can work both independently and collaboratively. The people who tend to thrive here are those who can keep the detail moving while staying close to the lived experiences of Black and Mixed-heritage women and families.

One of the most important parts of this role is being able to listen carefully, act on what you hear, and help turn community insight into practical action.

Up to £28,800 per annum (pro rata of £35,000 FTE)
