Aims of the post
To provide stimulation and exercise to dementia nursing residents through a wide and varied activities programme.
Hours of Work
The hours of work will be 16 hours per week, 8am to 4pm, working 2 days (Monday & Wednesday). Occasional weekend work for special occasions may be required.
Hours include: 15 minutes morning tea break. 30 minutes lunch break. All breaks are unpaid.
Job Duties:
1. Assess mental and physical needs of all residents regularly to ensure most appropriate activities are conducted.
2. Completion individual Activity Care Plans and Activity Reports on a daily basis (between 3pm and 4pm) or as and when required for each resident (computerised system).
3. Gathering life history information on admission about the residents’ social history that can be personalised.
4. Liaise closely with care staff and relatives to assess the most appropriate form of activity.
5. Develop and maintain community links with local groups, i.e. churches and schools.
6. Organise entertainers to visit the home.
7. Organise a comprehensive activities programme which encompasses all seasons and special events e.g. Christmas programme of entertainment, BBQs, etc.
8. Use budget in most effective manner.
9. Assist with weekly hairdressing programme (1 day per week on a Monday) and podiatry visits every 8-10 weeks. Due to the levels of care required, it will be necessary for the Activities Co-ordinator to provide full assistance to the hairdresser and podiatrist with residents’ each visit.
10. Encourage staff and relatives to become involved in any activity programmes.
Occasionally there may be a requirement for you to undertake regulated activity within the Home.
