Warehouse and Transport Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Warehouse and Transport Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our warehouse and transport functions. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for safe, efficient and accurate operations, with a strong focus on improving processes, developing people, controlling costs and delivering excellent customer service.
The successful candidate will be a practical, people-focused leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, improving ways of working and creating a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and customer service.
Reporting to the senior leadership team, this role will work closely with warehouse colleagues, drivers, sales, purchasing, customer service and other operational teams to ensure a joined-up, customer-focused operation.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations
- Lead the daily operation of the warehouse, ensuring products are received, stored, picked and dispatched accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and stock control.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through effective stock management and regular cycle counts.
- Optimise warehouse layout and workflows to improve productivity and minimise waste.
- Monitor operational performance against agreed KPIs.
Transport & Distribution
- Manage the planning and execution of deliveries to ensure customers receive orders on time and in full.
- Oversee vehicle utilisation, routing and scheduling to maximise efficiency.
- Manage transport costs while maintaining excellent service levels.
- Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, vehicle inspections and maintenance schedules.
- Work closely with drivers to promote safe, professional and customer-focused delivery standards.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, lead, coach and develop warehouse and transport colleagues.
- Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews and development planning.
- Build a positive, engaged and accountable team culture.
- Identify training needs and create opportunities for individuals to grow.
- Lead by example through visible, supportive and consistent leadership.
Continuous Improvement
- Review existing processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety and customer service.
- Introduce and embed standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Use operational data and KPIs to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Lead improvement projects from concept through to implementation.
- Encourage team members to contribute ideas for improving the operation.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure a safe working environment and promote a strong health and safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
- Conduct risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions where required.
- Maintain equipment, vehicles and warehouse facilities to appropriate standards.
Customer Service
- Work closely with sales, purchasing and customer service teams to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
- Resolve operational issues quickly and professionally.
- Ensure deliveries are accurate, timely and professionally executed.

- Proven experience managing warehouse and transport operations.
- Strong people leadership experience with a track record of developing teams.
- Experience improving operational processes and implementing change.
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems and stock control.
- Experience managing KPIs and operational performance.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
Desirable experience:
Experience within distribution, logistics, flooring, building products or another fast-paced trade supply environment; familiarity with fleet management, transport compliance or route planning systems; and experience leading operational change in a growing business.
