Gateshead College is seeking to recruit a creative and versatile Casual Art and Design Teacher to support delivery across our Art and Design department.
The successful candidate will work predominantly within Digital Arts, while also supporting the delivery of a broad range of general art and design skills. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher, creative practitioner or industry professional who is passionate about helping young people develop their confidence, technical ability and individual creative practice.
You will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating engaging and inclusive sessions across a range of Art and Design programmes. You may also be asked to provide planned or short-notice teaching cover, support project delivery and contribute specialist knowledge to curriculum activities.
Teaching will predominantly focus on digital creative practice, which may include:

Digital drawing and illustration
- Image manipulation and digital collage
- Graphic design and visual communication
- Adobe Photoshop and other relevant Adobe Creative Cloud applications
- Moving image, animation or digital media production
- Creative research, idea development and portfolio presentation
You will also be confident supporting broader art and design practice, including:

Observational drawing
- Painting and mixed-media processes
- Printmaking
- Design development and visual recording
- Contextual research
- Experimentation with materials, techniques and processes
You will support learners to develop ambitious and personal creative outcomes, make informed decisions about their work and understand how their skills connect to further study and employment within the creative industries.
The role will also include assessing learner work, providing clear and constructive feedback, monitoring learner progress and contributing to a positive, supportive and professional studio environment.
Skills and experience
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

Strong practical knowledge and experience within Digital Arts, digital design or a related creative discipline
- Confidence using Adobe Photoshop and relevant digital creative software
- The ability to support learners across a range of traditional and contemporary art and design practices
- Experience of planning and delivering engaging creative activities, workshops or taught sessions
Experience of teaching or assessing UAL Art and Design qualifications at Levels 1, 2 or 3 would be advantageous.
Qualifications

A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Digital Arts, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Visual Communication or a related creative discipline is desirable
- A recognised teaching qualification is desirable
