Patisserie Chef / Sous Chef
Merry Harriers Garden Centre & Restaurant – North Devon
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Patisserie Chef / Sous Chef to join our busy kitchen team at Merry Harriers.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced baker or pastry chef who takes pride in producing excellent homemade cakes, pastries and desserts, while also being happy to support the wider kitchen team when required.
The Role
You will take responsibility for the preparation and production of our homemade cakes, pastries, desserts and baked goods, helping us maintain the high-quality, homemade food that our customers love.
You will also work alongside our Head Chef and kitchen team, assisting with general kitchen duties and food preparation when required.
Hours: Approximately 4 days per week
Typical hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm
Days: To be agreed, including some weekend availability
Position: Patisserie Chef / Sous Chef
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and produce a range of high-quality homemade cakes, pastries, desserts and baked goods.
- Develop new and seasonal cakes and desserts for our restaurant and garden centre.
- Maintain consistently high standards of presentation, taste and quality.
- Prepare desserts and other items for our daily restaurant service.
- Assist the Head Chef with food preparation and general kitchen duties.
- Help with preparation for busy weekends, events and special occasions.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Monitor stock levels and minimise food waste.
- Follow recipes and portion-control guidelines while also bringing your own creativity to the role.
- Work as part of a friendly and professional kitchen team.
- Be willing to step into other kitchen duties when required.
The Person
We are looking for someone who:
- Has proven experience in patisserie, baking, pastry or professional kitchens.
- Has a genuine passion for baking and creating great food.
- Takes pride in presentation and attention to detail.
- Can work independently and manage their own workload.
- Is organised and able to plan production around restaurant demand.
- Has good food hygiene awareness.
- Is happy to support the wider kitchen team.
- Is reliable, hardworking and able to work well under pressure.
- Has a positive attitude and enjoys working as part of a small, friendly team.
Formal chef qualifications are desirable but not essential – we are particularly interested in someone with proven practical experience and a passion for producing excellent homemade baking.
