This role reports to the Senior Consultant – Client Lead. We’re open to shaping the job title to reflect your experience and career aspirations (e.g., HR Consultant, People Advisor, HR Business Partner). If you have a preferred title, let us know!

The Client Partnership Team:

This role reports into the Client Partnership Team – client facing on all matters. The team consists of one HR Recruitment and Admin Co-Ordinator, two HR Advisors and this vacant role of HR Consultant.

We have another side to our business dedicated to business development, all things systems and the key work behind the scenes! Together we work seamlessly to create The HR Branch Ltd.

The Office:

The main office is in Kirton Holme, Lincolnshire – PE20 1TW.

Our offices are located on a working farm, providing a unique and scenic setting, offering country lane walks at break time with two amazing dogs that can often be found in the office.

This role will have its own workstation in the main office that is shared with other members of the team. While this is a primarily on-site role, we offer a predictable, stable working pattern with limited evening or weekend work.

Main Purpose:

This is a varied and dynamic role supporting the full range of key HR activities to support our diverse client portfolio. With exposure (alongside full support) to varying industries / size of businesses / client demographic and much more, this role offers some of the best hands-on experience an HR professional could wish for.

Success in this position requires someone who is agile in their approach and confident managing multiple processes and client needs simultaneously, using a variety of IT tools and systems. A strong level of IT literacy, particularly across the Microsoft suite, is essential, as is experience working with multiple systems.

You will be comfortable balancing several tasks and client requests throughout the day, each with their own unique business approach, truly reflecting our ethos of partnering with the organisations we support.

The role also involves periodic travel to client sites, using either your own vehicle or the Company car. We recognise the importance of practical logistics, so if you live closer to a client, you are welcome to use your own car and claim business mileage where appropriate

Salary: up to £50,000, with the exact package reflecting your experience and the value you bring.

Length of contract: Permanent, mainly on site with travel, 5 days per week, 8:30am to 5pm

Main duties

Key Responsibilities:

Core advisory work

Guide managers/owners on people decisions. Translate employment law and good practice into practical options for hiring, performance, pay, structure, and exits.
Be the “on-call sounding board.” Quick, clear advice on day-to-day issues: sickness, conduct, conflict, flexible working, probation, etc.
Risk spotting. Flag legal/compliance or culture risks early and suggest safer routes.

On boarding

On board new clients, creating action plans and being their go to contact
Hold regular review meetings where required
Get to know the clients, do’s /don’ts and growth plans etc

Recruitment & onboarding

Support hiring end-to-end. Role scoping, job descriptions, interview questions, selection methods, and offer letters/contracts – administrative support on hand to do the do.
Onboarding design. Make sure new hires land well: checklists, inductions, 30/60/90-day plans, and manager coaching.
Employer brand basics. Help the small team look consistent and credible to candidates.

Employee relations (ER)

Handle tricky people cases. Investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, capability/performance, redundancy, TUPE (if relevant).
Case management. Keep notes, timelines, letters, and ensure fair process.
Mediation & conflict resolution. Step in early to prevent on going issues.

Policies, contracts & compliance

Set up the HR foundations. Contracts, handbook/policies, data protection, right-to-work, holiday/sick rules, family leave, etc.
Keep things updated and fit-for-purpose. Small teams change fast, so docs need to stay aligned with reality.
Audit gaps. Check if they’re missing anything critical for their size/industry.

Performance & development

Build lightweight performance systems. Simple goal-setting, feedback rhythms, annual review process that isn’t overkill.
Coach managers. How to give feedback, document performance, and have hard conversations.
Learning plans. Identify skill gaps and practical training options.

Culture & engagement

Shape the “way we work.” Values, behaviours, communication norms, team rituals.
Pulse checks. Surveys or informal listening to track morale and hotspots with clients

Pay & benefits support

Benchmarking and pay structure. Keep it fair, sustainable, and legally safe (equal pay).
Benefits guidance. Recommend benefits that fit budget and stage of growth.
Payroll liaison. Not always running payroll, but often checking accuracy/inputs.

Training & project work

Deliver training. Manager basics, ER skills, harassment prevention, onboarding, etc.
People projects. Org design tweaks, growth planning, HRIS setup, policy rollouts.

Person Specification

Skills & Experience:

Essential:

Previous experience in HR, at least 5 years
CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent)
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Confident IT skills, including MS Office and HR/recruitment systems.
Ability to manage multiple priorities across different clients. Agility.
Key understanding of employment law

Desirable:

Experience working within an HR consultancy or multi-client environment.
CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent)
