The School of Engineering and Innovation at Aston University delivers high-quality teaching and research across a range of engineering disciplines, with a strong emphasis on practical learning, innovation, and industry engagement. This role is based within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department and offers an exciting opportunity to support teaching, research, and project-based learning activities through the provision of specialist technical expertise.
Working within a collaborative technical team, the successful candidate will help maintain and develop laboratory facilities, support student learning, assist academic and research projects, and contribute to the delivery of an outstanding educational experience. The role provides the opportunity to work with modern electrical and electronic systems, microcontroller platforms, PCB design tools, and power electronics equipment while supporting the next generation of engineers.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical hands-on support for teaching, research and project-based learning. We are seeking a skilled Electrical/Electronics Technician to join our Technical Team. You will be working closely with students, academics and researchers, helping bring ideas to life through design, construction and testing of electrical systems, prototypes and working models. The role is a varied one that blends practical laboratory work with teaching support, equipment management, and collaboration across disciplines.
The Electrical/Electronics Technician will provide technical support for teaching, research, and student projects within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department. The role includes supporting laboratory classes, advising students on circuit design and troubleshooting, and assisting with the design, construction, testing, and repair of electrical and electronic systems. The post holder will maintain laboratory equipment, manage inventories, support procurement activities, and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements. Working collaboratively within the technical team, they will contribute to outreach activities, continuous improvement of facilities, and the delivery of an excellent learning and research environment.
