Across Wealth Management, Goldman Sachs helps empower clients and customers around the world to reach their financial goals. HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and successfully onboard a new local team of engineers in Birmingham. Act as a highly skilled hybrid senior technical lead and people manager. Provide hands-on technical direction, conduct code reviews, and unblock the local team while personally driving key billing initiatives from conception to production.
Platform Ownership: Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient system and infrastructure for our billing platform participating in architecture design discussions and reviews to enhance our services, enable new business functions and uplift our existing billing stack to the cloud. Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, cloud, and AI best practices.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand business needs, and transform them into actionable insights that drive business decisions. Work closely with other engineering teams across the firm to develop data feeds, APIs, processing pipelines and with the global user group to support and enhance the applications to meet new requirements. Understand the business workflows to assist in analyzing and converting business requirements into technical specifications.
Local Advocacy: Act as the technical face of the team in the Birmingham office, contributing to the local engineering community and internal engineering forums.
Qualifications:
Technical Requirements
- Experience: 10+ years in Software Engineering, with at least 2+ years in a formal leadership or management role.
- Design and Development: Expertise in producing scalable software solutions involving Spring, REST services, JMS, Hibernate/JPA and JSONs. Experience working with databases like Sybase or MongoDB and messaging frameworks like Kafka.
- Cloud Expertise: Hands-on knowledge of cloud-native architectures, cloud migration patterns, and cloud services (e.g., AWS)
- AI Readiness: Understand AI tooling to use it for faster application development and provide guidance to the team on AI best practices with respect to usage and data security.
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Mentorship: Demonstrate ability to manage new employees, with specific experience coaching junior engineers, helping them build confidence in a complex technical environment.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in the wealth management business.
- Problem Solving: A "builder" mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Ownership: Prior experience leading & delivering projects independently and working in global project team setup.
