Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are now recruiting a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team where you'll support us in ensuring the ongoing integrity, performance and compliance of our products across their full lifecycle. This role will be based at our Bishops Cleeve site.
The Role:
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership for the sustainment and continuous improvement of complex aerospace mechanical products. Working collaboratively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and Programmes, you'll ensure products continue to meet demanding performance, reliability and regulatory requirements throughout their lifecycle.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, influencing technical direction, and balancing quality, cost and delivery within a highly regulated environment.
What will the role involve?
As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will provide expert mechanical engineering support to both internal and external stakeholders throughout the entire product lifecycle, ensuring continued product conformity through technical reviews and adherence to engineering documentation.
You will assess and approve alternative materials and components to address obsolescence and supply chain challenges, while leading engineering changes through formal ECN processes. Working collaboratively across the business, you will drive redesign and continuous product improvement initiatives, balancing technical performance, quality, cost and delivery requirements.
You will lead root cause investigations, implement effective corrective actions, and produce high-quality engineering reports, technical documentation and design justifications.
As the mechanical engineering subject matter expert, you will support design reviews, contribute to key technical decisions, and work alongside cross-functional teams to develop effective obsolescence strategies. You'll also play an important role in mentoring and developing graduate and junior engineers, helping to build technical capability and engineering excellence across the team.

You’ll be an experienced Electronics Engineer with a background in digital and/or analogue design or evaluation within a reliability-critical environment. A degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics Engineering with demonstrable experience in a Lead or senior technical role within design or manufacturing.
Strong understanding of design verification and validation principles with experience approving design changes and participating in critical design reviews, Root Cause Analysis and corrective action expertise. CAD literacy (Altium & Windchill preferred) alongside Knowledge of applicable aerospace or regulated industry standards
Experience within aerospace or another highly regulated industry environment is crucial to this role. Exposure to RF design or evaluation would be advantageous, but not essential.
