The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Primary Care Charge Nurse to join the Healthcare Team at HMP Low Moss. The role is based within a custodial healthcare setting and involves delivering high-quality nursing care to a complex patient population with a wide range of physical, mental health and substance use needs.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual who can demonstrate the ability to work effectively while supporting the ongoing development of the team. The role requires a motivated practitioner with strong clinical skills who is confident working in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

This post is based within HMP Low Moss Prison, 190 Crosshill Road G64 2QB

You may be required to work across other prison sites when necessary to meet the needs of the service.
Key responsibilities:
Provide high-quality nursing care within a primary care prison setting, managing a defined caseload and responding to a wide range of health needs. Use specialist assessment skills and clinical judgement to determine health and care requirements, particularly when working with individuals who may have mental health issues, learning disabilities, language barriers, substance use issues or complex and chaotic lifestyles.
Work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, using initiative to respond to changing and challenging clinical situations. Demonstrate the ability to lead and support a team effectively, while communicating clearly with a range of professionals and disciplines. Maintain a professional and clinical approach in a dynamic environment and contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the service.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Candidates must be a first level registered Adult Nurse with significant post-registration experience

Demonstrable experience or skills in custodial healthcare, minor injuries, accident and emergency, drug and alcohol services, treatment room practice, and chronic disease management including asthma, diabetes and hypertension

Ability to manage a caseload within one of the relevant clinical areas

Evidence of strong leadership skills

Experience of using specialist assessment techniques to support clinical decision making

Ability to work effectively with patients presenting with complex needs

Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with a range of professionals

Adaptability and professionalism in a challenging and dynamic environment

Evidence of continuing professional development

Non-Medical Prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential
