Job Description

Join our team supporting one of the UK's most important defence programmes.

We're looking for reliable, safety focused individuals to join us as Vessel Fire & Safety Officers within a busy shipbuilding environment. This is a hands on role where you'll help protect people, assets, and operations from fire and safety risks while working alongside a wide range of trades and specialist teams.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly secure defence environment, with full training provided.

Interviews

There will be a recruitment afternoon held:

Date: 29 July 2026

Venue: The Bridge, Portland Walk, Barrow in Furness, LA14 1DB.

Time slots - 17150hrs and 1800hrs.

Shift Patterns

Day Shift

£15.16 per hour
3 days on, 4 days off

Night Shift

£15.88 per hour
Monday to Thursday

Night Shift

£16.91 per hour
3 nights on, 4 nights off

This is a shift based role operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Role

As a Vessel Fire & Safety Officer, you will:

Help protect people, assets, and operations within a busy shipbuilding and defence environment.
Monitor hot work activities and support safe working practices across the site.
Carry out fire safety checks and identify potential hazards.
Work closely with a variety of trades and teams to maintain a safe working environment.
Operate within vessels, confined spaces, and other challenging operational areas.
Support the delivery of fire safety standards across a nationally significant defence programme.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

British Citizen, or have held a British Passport for a minimum of 5 years.
Able to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
5 year checkable work history, with any employment gaps over 2 weeks explained.
Willing to work in physically demanding conditions including heat, confined spaces, and at height.
Committed to following procedures and maintaining high safety standards.

Additional Information

About You

Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments.
Comfortable working in confined spaces, at height, in darkness, and in varying weather conditions.
Comfortable wearing breathing apparatus and other safety equipment.
Safety focused, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
Previous experience in fire safety, emergency response, military, industrial, or security environments is beneficial but not essential
