Full job description

Job Purpose

Working as part of the multidisciplinary Health and Wellbeing team, the Mental Health Practitioner will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and holistic care across the school community. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking and enthusiastic individual to develop and enhance mental health provision within a diverse international boarding environment.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting the emotional wellbeing, mental health, and resilience of students and staff, providing early intervention, assessment, therapeutic support, and liaison with external agencies where appropriate.

Please note, below are the criteria which will be considered as part of the selection process.

Essential Qualifications

Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC registration; or
HCPC-registered professional relevant to children's mental health; or
Registered Social Worker with Social Work England; or
Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist registered with BACP, UKCP, or equivalent professional body

Essential Experience

Significant experience working with children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties.
Experience of mental health assessment, risk management, and care planning.
Experience of multidisciplinary working and partnership with families and external agencies.
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection legislation and procedures.
Experience of delivering therapeutic interventions and mental health education.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build effective therapeutic relationships with young people.
Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health presentations and interventions.
Understanding of NICE guidance and evidence-based practice.
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
Commitment to promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and diversity.

Desirable:

Experience working within an educational or boarding school setting.
Training in CBT-informed approaches, DBT-informed approaches, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed practice, or similar therapeutic models.
Experience delivering group interventions and staff wellbeing initiatives.

The normal hours of work are 24 - 30 per week, Monday to Friday during term time.

The salary is £31,000 full time eqivalent which will be pro rata depending on the hours worked.
