Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Job Purpose:
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, servicing, and commissioning of LiuGong construction equipment at customer sites across the UK.
The role ensures maximum machine availability, first-time fix performance, and a premium customer experience, while upholding LiuGong UK & Ireland’s standards of safety, technical competence, and commercial awareness.
This is a front-line brand ambassador role with direct responsibility for customer satisfaction, cost control, and revenue protection.

Key Responsibilities
1. Field Service & Technical Delivery
· Diagnose faults on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
· Carry out repairs, planned maintenance, and warranty work to OEM standards.
· Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and machine commissioning.
· Complete major component replacements (engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems).
· Conduct software diagnostics and parameter updates where applicable.
· Ensure all work complies with manufacturer specifications and HSE requirements.
2. Customer Interface & Brand Representation
· Act as primary technical contact on-site.
· Maintain professional communication with customers and operators.
· Provide technical advice and basic operator training where appropriate.
· Escalate recurring faults or product concerns through formal reporting channels.
· Identify opportunities for parts, service contracts, and preventative maintenance.
3. Documentation & Administration
· Complete digital job cards accurately and in real time.
· Record labour, parts usage, and detailed fault diagnostics.
· Submit warranty claims documentation in line with OEM standards.
· Maintain accurate van stock and inventory control.
· Ensure timesheets and expenses are submitted in accordance with company policy.
4. Health, Safety & Compliance
· Conduct dynamic risk assessments on all sites.
· Comply with all UK HSE regulations and customer site safety protocols.
· Maintain company vehicle, tools, and diagnostic equipment in safe working order.
· Ensure all lifting, isolation, and testing procedures are followed correctly.
5. Continuous Improvement
· Attend manufacturer training courses.
· Maintain technical certification levels.
· Contribute feedback to Service and Technical teams regarding product reliability trends.
· Support dealer network where required with technical expertise.

· Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.
· Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics.
· Experience with OEM diagnostic software tools.
· Fault-finding methodology using structured root cause analysis.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
· NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance / Heavy Vehicle / Agricultural Engineering.
· Proven experience servicing construction or heavy plant machinery.
· Full UK driving licence.
· Strong diagnostic capability.
Desirable:
· Manufacturer training accreditation.
· LOLER / PUWER awareness.
· IPAF / PASMA certification.
· Electrical competency (high voltage systems).
