The Domestic Abuse Community Team works with women and men in the community who have experienced, or are still experiencing, domestic abuse. Specialising in providing outreach support in the BCP area. This is an exciting role to spearhead community work in BCHA’s domestic abuse services, and the wider BCP area. The community team is an integral part of BCHA's domestic abuse services, dedicated to ensuring a holistic response to domestic abuse and other forms of exploitation.

Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives? Join our dedicated Domestic Abuse Community Team, supporting women and men across the community who have experienced—or are currently experiencing—domestic abuse.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to play a key role in delivering vital outreach support across the BCP area. As part of a forward-thinking and compassionate service, you’ll help drive a holistic response to domestic abuse and related forms of exploitation, ensuring individuals receive the support they need, when they need it most.

About the Role

As a Helpline Adviser, you will be the first point of contact for individuals seeking help. Managing the domestic abuse helpline, you’ll handle incoming calls and emails with empathy and professionalism, ensuring every person is heard and supported.

You will:

Triage all referrals into the service, including police PPN referrals
Provide timely, appropriate responses to individuals in need
Offer immediate safety planning and emotional support via phone
Coordinate access to wider services and ongoing support

Your Approach

Working in a trauma-informed and person-centred way, you’ll build trust with individuals and empower them to move forward safely. Using a strengths-based approach, you will help people:

Address personal safety and reduce risk
Access legal, housing, and financial support
Explore opportunities in employment and education
Work towards their personal goals and aspirations

Requirements:

prioritise the immediate safety needs of the customers and manage risk;
enable customers to access local support services;
engage customers in their own recovery and support planning;
support customers to access move-on accommodation to continue their journey of safety and recovery
provide intensive personalised support and effective case management;
support access to services including legal, mental health, sexual, domestic, drug & alcohol abuse;
build professional working relationships - internally & externally;
be a resilient, confident, calm, practical & pragmatic person;
be self-motivated, proactive, assertive, empathic and non-judgemental;
have good listening, questioning and written skills
