Role Overview.
Ministry of Sound is seeking a versatile and experienced Production Technician to join our Technical & Production team. This is a hands-on role supporting all aspects of the venue's technical operations, including sound, lighting, video, staging, rigging and live event production.
The successful candidate will help deliver world-class experiences across club events, live performances, brand activations, corporate events and private hires. Working closely with the Technical & Production Manager and wider production team, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance and development of a wide range of production systems and infrastructure throughout the venue.
This role is ideal for an all-round technical professional who enjoys working across multiple disciplines and thrives in a fast-paced entertainment environment.
The role requires flexibility and a willingness to work evenings, late nights, weekends and public holidays in line with the operational requirements of a busy live entertainment venue.
Key Responsibilities.
Event Delivery & Technical Operations.
- Assist with the delivery of all nightclub events, concerts, private hires, corporate functions and special projects.
- Set up, operate and strike sound, lighting, video, staging and special effects equipment.
- Support visiting artists, DJs, promoters, production managers and external suppliers.
- Assist with event advancing and technical planning.
- Attend production meetings and contribute to event delivery plans.
- Ensure event spaces are production-ready and maintained to the highest standard.
- Support live event operation as required across all venue spaces.
- Take ownership of maintaining exceptional production standards across all event spaces.
- Ensure all technical systems are presented to the highest operational and aesthetic standards prior to each event.
Audio Systems.
- Set up, configure and operate professional audio systems.
- Maintain and monitor venue sound systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Support the setup and operation of DJ equipment and performance systems.
- Troubleshoot faults and carry out basic repairs and maintenance.
- Conduct routine system checks and sound monitoring in line with venue policies.
- Assist visiting engineers with integration into venue systems.
- Assist with system optimisation and tuning as directed by the Technical & Production Manager.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the venue's audio infrastructure, signal flow and networked audio systems.
Lighting Systems.
- Operate and maintain lighting systems throughout the venue.
- Program and update lighting shows where required.
- Assist in the creation and development of lighting shows and visual experiences for club nights and special events.
- Assist with fixture servicing, testing and troubleshooting.
- Support the installation of temporary lighting for special events and productions.
- Maintain lighting control systems and associated network infrastructure.
Video & AV Systems.
- Set up and operate video playback, projection, LED displays and presentation systems.
- Assist with corporate AV requirements including microphones, presentation systems and conference setups.
- Support live streaming, content playback and broadcast systems where required.
- Troubleshoot video and AV system faults.
- Maintain video equipment and ensure system reliability.
- Assist in the operation and development of the venue's video and visual systems to enhance audience experiences.
Staging, Rigging & Production Infrastructure.
- Install and dismantle staging, truss, barriers and production equipment.
- Assist with safe rigging operations in accordance with industry best practice and venue procedures.
- Support temporary structures and production installations.
- Assist with loading, unloading and movement of equipment throughout the venue.
- Work safely at height where trained and authorised.
- Conduct visual inspections of staging and rigging equipment.
- Support venue refurbishment projects, production upgrades and special installations where required.
Maintenance & Asset Management.
- Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on all production equipment.
- Build and work to preventative maintenance schedules to minimise system downtime.
- Ensure all production equipment remains fully operational and event ready.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections and servicing.
- Assist with management of the technical asset register.
- Monitor stock levels of consumables, spare parts and technical equipment.
- Assist with equipment procurement and supplier liaison.
- Ensure production areas, workshops and storage facilities remain organised and safe.
Team & Venue Support.
- Work closely with the Technical & Production Manager to support departmental objectives.
- Assist with supervising freelance technicians and contractors when required.
- Act as a key technical point of contact for visiting production teams and contractors.
- Assist with the coordination and supervision of freelance crew during event installations and de-rigs.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, suppliers, promoters and artists.
- Contribute ideas for venue improvements and future production developments.
- Support colleagues across all departments to ensure successful event delivery.
- Attend relevant industry events, trade shows and training opportunities to maintain and develop technical knowledge.
Health & Safety.
- Maintain the highest standards of health and safety at all times.
- Follow all venue policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Ensure safe working practices when handling electrical equipment, working at height and undertaking rigging activities.
- Monitor contractor compliance with venue procedures.
- Report equipment defects, hazards and incidents promptly.
- Support the creation, review and implementation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) where required.
- Promote a proactive safety culture within the department and throughout the venue.
Person Specification.
Essential.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in a live events, nightclub, entertainment venue or production environment.
- Strong working knowledge of professional sound, lighting and video systems.
- Experience in staging, rigging and event installation.
- Experience supporting live events and technical productions.
- Experience working within a nightclub, music venue, theatre, concert venue or live entertainment environment.
- Good understanding of professional DJ equipment, including Pioneer DJ systems.
- Experience working with artists, promoters and external production companies.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical faults under pressure.
- Good understanding of health and safety within live event environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proficient with Mac and Windows platforms.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools safely.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Desirable.
- Experience with Dante audio networking.
- Experience with Avolites lighting control systems.
- Experience with LED walls, media servers and video processing systems.
- Knowledge of Art-Net, sACN and entertainment networking.
- Experience with Pioneer DJ equipment and associated networking.
- Experience working in a high-capacity nightclub or music venue.
- Experience with live streaming and content creation systems.
- Knowledge of KV2 audio systems.
- Rigging qualifications.
- IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
- First Aid qualification.
- Formal qualification in Production Technology, Live Events, Electronics or a related field.
