About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Sports Coach to lead and deliver high-quality sports and physical education programmes across primary schools. The successful candidate will inspire children to develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity while supporting schools in achieving their physical education and sport objectives. This job requires you to work in Schools in and around Braintree, Witham and Colchester.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging sports coaching sessions for pupils aged 4–11.
- Lead a variety of sports activities, including team games, athletics, fitness, and fundamental movement skills.
- Support the development and implementation of school sports programmes and extracurricular clubs.
- Mentor and support junior coaches and coaching assistants.
- Organise and coordinate sports events, competitions, and festivals.
- Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils can participate regardless of ability.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and programme outcomes.
- Ensure all coaching activities comply with safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, parents, and school leadership teams.
- Driving Licence
Essential Requirements
- Recognised sports coaching qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 Coaching Qualification or equivalent).
- Experience coaching children in a school setting.
- Displays energy and enthusiasm in their delivery to inspire and motivate children.
- Strong knowledge of primary-age physical development and coaching techniques.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage young learners.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- First Aid certification or willingness to undertake training.
Desirable Requirements
- Degree in Sports Coaching, Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
- Experience managing or mentoring coaching staff.
- Multi-sport coaching experience.
- Safeguarding and child protection training.
- Experience organising school sports competitions and events.
