The Role
Role Requirements:
We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and self-driven Production Technician to join our team. The main purpose of this job role is to master the technical processes involved in the assembly of our products and lead the training and development of the assembly team to ensure a highly skilled and flexible workforce. Working closely with the Operations Manager, you will help to bridge the gap between engineering and production, driving continuous improvement (Lean/5S) and maintaining accurate BOM and routing details. You will support production schedule delivery, troubleshoot technical issues, assemble products first hand when required, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Hours: Monday – Thursday 37 hours per week (9.25 hours per day)
Salary depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Train, mentor, and develop assembly staff on new and existing products to build a flexible, multi-skilled, and capable workforce.
- Learn, maintain, and master all technical assembly processes, setting and operating machinery, and performing hands-on product assembly and testing.
- Generate new and update existing work instructions and PCD to standardise manufacturing methods.
- Lead the onboarding and training of assembly staff during New Product Introduction (NPI) phases.
- Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings, with experience using AutoCAD highly preferable.
- Produce, review, and maintain accurate component/assembly routings and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Coordinate the transfer of new products to manufacturing, ensuring all drawings, risk assessments, and PCD are complete.
- Actively drive 5S and Kaizen programmes to optimise shop floor efficiency, cleanliness, and output quality.
- · Implement Lean methodologies including SPC, Process Flow, Poka-Yoke, and line balancing.
- Recommend, source, prove, and introduce new tooling and equipment to meet processing time targets.
- Fault-find production line kit, analyse test data, and liaise with equipment suppliers or maintenance to resolve issues.
- Investigate customer product returns to identify root-cause failure modes.
- Support Engineering with the build, test, and component booking for sample production.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to support production schedule delivery and meet business targets.
- Maintain existing manufacturing processes in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 procedures.
Personal Skills / Experience
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical manufacturing and design principles.
- Capable of working closely with the design team to interpret a design and successfully implement new designs into production.
- Proven manufacturing experience with a track record of successful process implementation.
- Experience maintaining and updating business control system databases, routings, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Experience supporting project documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 procedures.
- Strong ability to understand tooling, component, and assembly drawings.
- A keen eye for detail and high standards of quality output.
- Strong skills in implementing process controls and delivering continuous improvements.
- Highly motivated, collaborative, and able to make informed technical decisions.
