The role and the team

The post of Pastoral and Behaviour Support Worker supports the work of Senior Leadership Team and Pastoral Leaders who have responsibility for a year group. They provide pastoral support and guidance to students, mentoring individuals and small groups where appropriate. In addition, the Pastoral and Behaviour Support Worker team forms part of Student Services and alongside other colleagues carries out a range of roles to promote high standards of behaviour and attendance.

The Student Services team has developed over many years to provide a comprehensive range of in-school support for our students. Led by two Assistant Headteachers and the Deputy Headteacher for Climate and Culture, the team sit at the heart of our commitment to the highest standards. The team covers learning support, intervention, safeguarding and welfare, attendance and counselling.

Duties and responsibilities

To provide pastoral support and guidance to students and assist in their behavioural, emotional and social development.
To build strong and positive relationships with students in accordance with our DNA statement and staff code of conduct.
To research, develop and implement positive intervention strategies with students.
To arrange and develop 1:1 and small group mentoring arrangements and provide bespoke support for students as required.
To investigate incidents on behalf of the Senior Leadership Team in accordance with our Behaviour Policy.
To complete the necessary paperwork associated with managing behaviour incidents including exclusion reports if necessary.
To provide support to the Pastoral Lead team in promoting excellent behaviour and attitudes in school.
To uphold and support the safeguarding policies of the school in all dealings with students.
To work with the safeguarding team to administrate and provide support for children and families open to Early Help.
To provide support to the attendance team in promoting good attendance for key students
To do break and lunch duties as well as meeting students at the beginning of the day and assisting with supervision at the end of the day, proactively supervising students during the school day alongside the Senior Leadership Team.
To support the effective running of the Intervention room through timetabled sessions and wider whole school support.
To contact parents and carers about matters relating to students being supported.
To coordinate ‘off site direction’ in liaison with other schools where directed.
To attend and participate in meetings as required.
To demonstrate a commitment to on-going personal and professional development by attending relevant courses and sharing good practice with others.
Contribute to supporting other colleagues within the team, covering duties as required for them in order to ensure smooth running of the Student Support Team.

The post holder may also be required to perform duties other than those given above. These may vary from time to time without changing the general level of responsibility. Such variations would not justify the re-evaluation of a post.
