We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Newly Qualified Employment Solicitor to join our growing Employment team based at our Canterbury office.
This is an excellent opportunity for an NQ solicitor to develop their career in a supportive and commercially focused environment, working with a diverse range of employers and individuals on a broad variety of employment matters. You will work closely with experienced employment lawyers while being given increasing responsibility for your own caseload and client relationships.
Key responsibilities
You will have the opportunity to advise on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including:
- Advising employers and employees on employment contracts, policies and procedures.
- Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, settlement agreements and other employment documentation.
- Advising on disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Supporting clients with performance management and absence issues.
- Advising on redundancy, restructuring and TUPE matters.
- Assisting with employment tribunal claims, including unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing claims.
- Preparing pleadings, witness statements, correspondence and other tribunal documentation.
- Conducting legal research and keeping up to date with developments in employment law.
- Supporting senior solicitors and partners on complex and high-value matters.
- Building strong relationships with clients and providing clear, practical and commercially focused advice.
- Contributing to business development and the continued growth of the Employment team.
About you
We are looking for a newly qualified solicitor who is genuinely passionate about employment law and keen to establish themselves within the field.
You will ideally have:
- Qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, or be due to qualify shortly.
- Completed a training contract with experience in employment law.
- A strong academic background and sound knowledge of UK employment legislation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong drafting and analytical abilities.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- A client-focused and commercially minded approach.
- Confidence to take ownership of matters while recognising when to seek support.
- A proactive attitude and enthusiasm for developing your employment law expertise.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
