Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and hands-on General Maintenance Technician to support the day-to-day upkeep of our care home. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, comfortable, and well-presented environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will take pride in their work, with strong attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks to a high standard, from decorating and repairs to room preparation and general upkeep.
Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repair tasks throughout the care home, ensuring all areas are safe, clean, and well maintained
- Prepare bedrooms and communal areas to a high standard, including painting, decorating, and finishing works
- Hang pictures, mirrors, shelves, and fittings securely and accurately
- Assemble and install furniture, including flat-pack items such as IKEA furniture
- Carry out mastic and sealing works neatly and professionally (bathrooms, kitchens, skirting, etc.)
- Operate and maintain floor cleaning machinery to ensure high cleanliness standards across all flooring types
- Undertake minor plumbing and joinery repairs where required
- Complete routine checks and report any issues that may affect safety or comfortAssist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, and supporting general site organisation
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety standardsWork closely with the management team to prioritise tasks and respond to maintenance requests promptly
- Qualifications
- Proven experience in general maintenance, ideally within a care home, hotel, or similar environment
- Strong practical skills in painting and decorating, with the ability to deliver a high-quality finish
- Experience with mastic application and finishing to a professional standard
- Confident in assembling furniture and completing basic installation tasksAbility to use floor cleaning machines and maintain cleanliness standards
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, joinery, and general building repairsGood organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise workload
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently
- Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
