Full job description

The Glyndebourne Festival (running from May to August), features a programme of six operas in its 1,200-seat opera house, attracting audiences from around the world. The Autumn Season (October to December) extends Glyndebourne’s reach, offering audiences the opportunity to experience fresh perspectives and new works in a dynamic and exploratory setting. Together, the Festival and Autumn Season welcome over 125,000 attendees annually, with many more engaging through online streaming and other digital platforms.

Remaining financially independent since its inception, Glyndebourne is a registered charity that relies on box office income, memberships, and donations to fund its operations. Committed to artistic excellence, audience development, and accessibility, Glyndebourne continues to expand the reach and appreciation of opera for all.

The Building and Services department at Glyndebourne maintains the theatre, restaurants and public areas, production departments and offices. We are looking for an Apprentice Building Services Engineer to join our small, motivated maintenance team taking the electrical pathway as you work towards the Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

Training course

ST1426 Engineering maintenance technician - single discipline: electrical

Tasks & training details

As an apprentice, you will learn;

To assist in the preparation and implementation of planned maintenance routines, report on effectiveness of those routines and make recommendations to improve practices.
To report on any plant/equipment/installations deterioration and recommend required action.
To be proactive in support of sustainability and energy saving initiatives.
Accurately complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs) to agreed and specified timescales and write reports as required. To carry out PPMs when requested, inside or outside of opening times. To progress PPMs and ensure the completed reports are returned in an efficient manner.
Carry out reactive mechanical / electrical works and day to day engineering duties as specified by your manager/supervisor ensuring plant & equipment are maintained at appropriate times to suit the business.
To work with Glyndebourne's Maintenance/Asset management System. This is a software based system used for the recording and submission of planned and reactive maintenance.
To provide Building Services cover in the event of an emergency, and to respond to emergency situations in accordance with Glyndebourne's emergency procedures.

Benefits

25 days annual leave with additional non-contractual two weeks over the Christmas period, 5% pension contribution, Employee Assistance Programme (HR and wellbeing), onsite physio, free minibus service from Lewes to Glyndebourne

Apprenticeship duration - 46 months

Weekly working hours - Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00 (one hour lunch break)

Total working hours 35

Pay rate – weekly or per annum

National Living wage: £12.71 per hour / £444.85 per week / £23,132 per annum.

Skills

Good practical skills (dexterity) as you will be working on complex systems. Able to manage own workload and prioritize. Ability to switch between projects when required & meet deadlines.

Qualifications: Essential

5 x GCSE at Grade 4/5 (C) and above including English and maths.

Qualifications: Desirable

GCSE Science an advantage.

Training to be provided:

On completion of the apprenticeship, you will have achieved the following qualifications;

ST426 Engineering maintenance technician - single discipline: electrical
Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 3 Diploma

The final apprenticeship completion certificate will be issued on achievement of the above qualification and successful completion of end point assessment.
