The Bristol Loaf at Bristol Beacon is looking for an experienced chef to join our kitchen team.
We run a busy café and bar inside one of Bristol’s biggest music venues, serving food throughout the day as well as for gigs and events. Our focus is straightforward: really good food, made properly, using great local and sustainable produce.
The food takes a lot of inspiration from Italian delis and sandwich shops – good bread, cured meats, roasted and chargrilled vegetables, local cheeses, pickles and ferments, alongside plenty of interesting vegetarian and vegan food. We make as much as we can ourselves and like finding ways to get the most out of simple ingredients.
The role
You’ll work as part of the kitchen team across a varied menu, including:
- Breakfast alongside pastries from The Bristol Loaf bakery
- Sandwiches, salads and deli food
- A small brunch and lunch menu for eating in and takeaway
- Evening food for gigs and events, including hot sandwiches, burgers, specials and sides
- Sunday roasts
There’s plenty of scope to contribute ideas to the menu. We’re particularly interested in chefs who enjoy working with seasonal produce and want to develop skills in areas such as curing, pickling, fermenting, smoking and baking.
About you
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has at least 3 years’ professional kitchen experience
- Is comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced kitchen
- Is organised and can prioritise when things get busy
- Cares about ingredients and cooking things properly
- Enjoys contributing ideas rather than simply following a set menu
- Is interested in learning new techniques and developing as a chef
Experience in bakeries, cafés, street food, pizzerias or similarly busy kitchens would be particularly useful.
Pay & hours
£13.75 per hour
36 hours per week
4-day working week
Shifts are generally around 10 hours, giving you three days off each week.
What we offer
- Training and opportunities to develop within The Bristol Loaf
- Staff discounts across our venues and at Native Vine
- Free or discounted food while working
- The chance to have a genuine input into the food we serve
- A busy and varied workplace, from everyday café service to some of the biggest gigs and events in Bristol
The role is based at The Bristol Loaf at Bristol Beacon, BS1 5AR.
If you’re a good cook, care about ingredients and want to work somewhere where you can contribute ideas and develop your skills, we’d like to hear from you.
