Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Butcher/Shop Assistant to join our team. This role involves preparing, cutting, and selling high-quality meat products while providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food production and experience in a retail or culinary environment. This position offers an opportunity to develop specialised skills within the butchery and food retail sectors, contributing to a welcoming shopping experience for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cut meat products in accordance with safety and quality standards
- Assist customers with their selections, offering knowledgeable advice on cuts and cooking methods
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the shop, including sanitising work surfaces and equipment
- Restock shelves with fresh meat products, ensuring proper labelling and presentation
- Handle transactions accurately at the till point, processing payments efficiently
- Follow food safety regulations and hygiene procedures at all times
- Assist in inventory management, including stock checks and ordering supplies as needed
- Support in food preparation tasks where necessary, including packaging and portioning meat products
Requirements
- Previous experience in food production, butchery, or retail food environments is highly desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Culinary experience or kitchen background is advantageous
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanour
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work during shop hours, including weekends if required
- Food preparation skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment are beneficial
