Contract /Hours: Fixed-term contract until September 2027, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Salary range: Up to £51,217 per annum DOE inclusive of regional pay allowance

With our core laboratory based at The Halo Building in London WC1H 9AX, we also have an expanding site in Manchester as well as smaller hospital-based laboratories across the country. We maintain rigorously high standards of quality, whilst also delivering efficiencies to healthcare through careful workforce planning, pioneering technology and significant investment in infrastructure and IT.

Due to the nature of work that Sonic Healthcare UK undertakes, our clients require that Employees filling certain roles, need, as part of their on-boarding to complete a DBS Check. This role falls into the category of requiring a DBS check (standard).

About the role:

A vacancy has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist (BMS) in our Microbiology Department based at Princess Alexandra Harlow (PAH) Hospital following implementation of a new Pathology and Phlebotomy services programme commissioned by the Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board with services set to commence from 1st March 2025. As part of the commissioning of the Hertfordshire and West Essex (HWE) Pathology service HSL will establish a new hub laboratory based at 7 Croxley Park, Watford.

This newly developed hub laboratory will provide pathology testing across a range of disciplines including Sample Reception, Biochemistry, Haematology, Routine Coagulation and Microbiology. It is an expectation that Microbiology staff based within the PAH hospital site will transfer across to either the new hub at Croxley Park when this becomes operational in 2026 or the Halo hub lab located in Kings Cross, London.

The laboratory at PAH provides a routine microbiology service 7 days a week. The successful candidate will join our team of dedicated biomedical scientists and associate practitioners in delivering a high-quality pathology service.

The ideal candidate will be committed to service excellence and have a genuine desire for continued personal and professional development. Candidates should have a suitable approved undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) and be registered with the HCPC.

The microbiology laboratory operates a 7-day service so the successful candidate will be expected to participate in all relevant shifts required to cover this timeframe.
