Weekend Hygiene Operator (Food Manufacturing, BRCGS Environment)
Location: Two BRCGS-certified food manufacturing sites (travel between sites will be required - Peffermill and our Gluten Free site at Butlerfield, Bonnyrigg)
Shift Pattern:
Saturday & Sunday
07:00 – 19:00
Job Type: Permanent (following a 3-month probationary period)
Are you passionate about food safety, hygiene, and maintaining the highest standards in food manufacturing? We’re looking for a reliable and detail-focused Hygiene Operator to join our weekend hygiene team, supporting food safety, quality, and BRCGS compliance across our manufacturing operations.
This is a key role within the business, ensuring that production environments are cleaned, sanitised, and audit-ready—helping protect product integrity, customer trust, and site certification.
What you’ll be doing:
As a Hygiene Operator, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding food safety standards across the site. Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out cleaning and sanitising of production areas, equipment, utensils, and infrastructure in line with BRCGS, HACCP, GMP, and site hygiene schedules.
- Completing validated cleaning procedures to prevent microbiological, chemical, physical, and allergen contamination.
- Safely dismantling and reassembling equipment to allow effective deep cleaning.
- Following zoning, segregation, and allergen controls to prevent cross-contamination.
- Using approved food-safe cleaning chemicals in line with COSHH requirements, site procedures, and manufacturer instructions.
- Ensuring correct storage, dilution, labelling, and disposal of hygiene chemicals.
- Using hygiene tools and equipment correctly, following colour-coding and site controls.
- Completing hygiene records, cleaning logs, verification checks, and sign-off documentation accurately and on time.
- Identifying, recording, and escalating hygiene issues, non-conformances, or food safety risks.
- Supporting internal audits, BRCGS audits, customer audits, and site inspections.
- Maintaining high standards of personal hygiene, PPE use, and professional behaviour at all times.
- Removing and disposing of waste in line with site and environmental procedures.
- Working collaboratively with Hygiene Supervisors, Technical, Production, and Engineering teams.
- Travelling between two manufacturing sites as required to meet hygiene and operational needs.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure you’re confident, compliant, and successful in the role.
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for dependable individuals who take pride in maintaining high standards. You’ll be well suited to this role if you:
- Can follow strict hygiene, food safety, and BRCGS-controlled procedures.
- Have a strong attention to detail and understanding of food safety risks.
- Are comfortable working independently during weekend shifts.
- Have basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate record keeping.
- Are physically capable of carrying out manual and repetitive hygiene tasks.
- Are flexible and willing to travel between two food manufacturing sites.
- Communicate clearly and work well as part of a wider hygiene and site team.
Previous experience in a BRCGS-accredited food manufacturing environment, or knowledge of HACCP, GMP, allergen controls, or industrial cleaning equipment is advantageous—but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Why join us?
Joining our team means becoming part of a business that takes food safety, quality, and people seriously. We offer:
- A stable weekend role within a compliant, audit-focused food manufacturing environment.
- Full induction and ongoing training in BRCGS Food Safety, hygiene procedures, COSHH, and site standards.
- Continuous development and refresher training to support audit readiness and compliance.
- A supportive, professional working environment where high standards are recognised and valued.
- The opportunity to play a critical role in protecting product quality and site certification.
