This is a 24month developmental apprenticeship role with the University of Lincoln due to commence in February 2027. The Student Nurse Associate Apprentice (SNAA) will work towards progression into the post of a Registered Nurse Associate through successful completion of the Student Nurse Associate Apprenticeship programme. The apprentice will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nurse Associate within Lincolnshire Community & Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG) and through completion of the level 5 foundation degree apprenticeship with a Higher Education Institute (HEI) which includes working in a variety of clinical placements and delivery of person-centred care under the supervision of a registered practitioner.
Training posts /bases will only be made available where a vacancy exists and can be accommodated within the ward establishment. All training posts will be identified centrally and agreed by the Director of Nursing in advance. As a result, successful candidates may be required to transfer to other wards or departments where the vacancies exist - these could be in either a community or hospital setting.
Candidates are asked to stress their preference of acute, community and location within their application. Although every effort will be made to try and match these; this cannot be guaranteed as posts will be dependent upon organisational need and availability.

To receive delegated duties from the supervising RN and senior colleagues, accepting those that fall within their individual competency level, adhering to the NMC Delegation and Accountability tool (NMC Code 2018) and to perform procedures as detailed within the NMC Standards for Proficiency for Nurse Associate (2018) (Annexe B) to meet the nursing needs of the patients in their care and work within Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines.
At the end of the apprenticeship , the SNAA will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nurse Associate and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct with the requirement to register on the Nursing Midwifery Council register (NMC).

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

Work towards performing and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse.
Work towards under supervision how to undertake clinical tasks including cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs.
Work towards accurately recording nutritional and fluid intake.
Report back and share information with the registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity, and responses of individuals.
Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals.
Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is being administered.
Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional, and psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of individuals and carers.
Assist in the delivery of complex care as prescribed by the registered nurse.
Work towards developing an understanding of caring for individuals with conditions for example dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities.
Work towards the delegation appropriately to other team members, including Health Care Support Workers, family members and other lay carers adhering to the NMC Delegation and Accountability tool (NMC code 2018)
Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical standards and outcomes.
Work towards developing a working knowledge of other providers’ resources and referral systems to ensure individual’s needs are met, within parameters of practice.
Engage in reflective practice including management of self and reflection on own reactions, asking questions, and reflecting on answers given to improve service provision and that of others.
Work towards demonstrating good understanding of principles of consent and ensure valid consent is obtained prior to undertaking nursing and care procedures.
Work towards demonstrating a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act / Deprivation of Liberties and apply principles to everyday practice seeking advice / guidance from the Registered Nurse or registered care professional as required.
Plan and manage competing demands of job role, study, and placement activities.
Work in an effective and organised manner demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills to effectively deliver person-centred care for an allocated group of individuals.

Develop by the end of the Student Nurse Associate Apprenticeship the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individual’s defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nurse Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.
