Greenkeeper / Apprentice Greenkeeper
The Gog Magog Golf Club, Cambridge
The Gog Magog Golf Club is currently recruiting for a Greenkeeper or Apprentice Greenkeeper to join our well-established and experienced Estates Team.
We are casting the net wide and would welcome applications from both experienced, qualified greenkeepers looking for their next opportunity and individuals looking to start a career in golf greenkeeping.
This is a full-time, year-round position and an excellent opportunity to develop your skills while gaining experience of maintaining and presenting a 36-hole golf facility to a high standard for members' play, competitions and large national events.
The successful candidate will become part of an experienced team working across both the Old Course and Wandlebury Course, with opportunities to develop practical skills across all aspects of modern golf course maintenance.
The Role
Depending on experience and qualifications, the successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of golf course maintenance activities, including:
- Daily preparation and presentation of golf course playing surfaces.
- Mowing and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, surrounds and rough.
- Machinery operation, cleaning and basic maintenance.
- Irrigation and water management.
- Aeration, scarification, verticutting and other cultural practices.
- Topdressing and overseeding.
- Course set-up and preparation for competitions and events.
- General course maintenance and improvement projects.
- Working as part of a team to maintain consistently high standards across the golf course.
- Supporting the wider Estates Team with environmental and estate management work where required.
For an apprentice or candidate new to the industry, no previous greenkeeping experience is necessary. You will receive full training in the use of all necessary equipment and practical guidance from our experienced team while working towards a recognised qualification.
The position offers an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career within the golf industry and develop practical experience across a wide range of modern greenkeeping practices.
About You
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and is keen to learn and develop.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Honest and reliable.
- A good timekeeper.
- A keen and effective communicator.
- Willing to learn and develop new skills.
- A positive and committed team player.
- Passionate, enthusiastic and motivated.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of undertaking the demands of the role.
- Someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards.
For experienced applicants, a Level 2 or higher qualification in Golf Greenkeeping, relevant practical experience and a willingness to continue developing professionally would be advantageous.
For apprentices, no previous experience or qualifications are required. Attitude, reliability and a genuine interest in developing a career in greenkeeping are far more important.
Training & Development
For the successful apprentice, the role will include working towards a Level 2 Certificate in Golf Greenkeeping at BCA College, alongside structured practical training within the golf course team.
Experienced greenkeepers will also have opportunities to broaden their skills and knowledge through practical experience, training and involvement in the varied maintenance and development work undertaken across the 36-hole site.
