Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business and support strategic decision-making across the organisation.
The Finance Manager serves as the custodian of the company’s cash runway, with end-to-end ownership of every pound. From the point of invoicing through to the settlement of supplier obligations, they oversee the full financial lifecycle, ensuring disciplined cash flow management that keeps the business liquid, credible, and agile.
The successful candidate will work closely with the COO and CEO, attending weekly review meetings and providing accurate financial reporting, analysis, and operational support. The role also includes line management responsibility for the Finance Assistant and active participation in weekly management meetings.
This position requires a proactive individual who can balance hands-on financial management with strategic insight and business partnering, ideally within a software or technology-led business environment.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Ownership of finances - the custodian of the company’s cash runway, with end-to-end ownership of every pound. From the point of invoicing through to the settlement of supplier obligations, they oversee the full financial lifecycle—ensuring disciplined cash flow management that keeps the business liquid, credible, and agile.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Monitor cash flow, budgets, and financial forecasts.
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking processes.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Manage multi-currency transactions and reporting where applicable.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements and reporting deadlines.
- Liaise with the external payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including review and reconciliation of payroll reports.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage and support the Finance Assistant, including workload planning, training, and performance management.
- Promote strong financial controls and efficient working practices within the finance function.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Meet weekly with the COO and CEO to review financial performance, priorities, and business initiatives.
- Attend and contribute to weekly management meetings.
- Prepare reporting packs and participate in quarterly executive meetings.
- Work collaboratively with department heads to support operational and commercial decision-making.
- Build effective working relationships with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders, including large corporate organisations.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, statutory requirements, and internal policies.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and other professional advisers as required.
- Maintain and improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls.
- Support audit preparation and statutory reporting requirements.
- Work closely with the business’s Data Protection Officer to ensure the company is meeting all of its GDPR obligations.
Commercial Support
- Assist the COO and CEO with strategic planning and financial modelling.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies, and process improvements.
- Support business growth initiatives through financial insight and analysis.
- Support commercial activities related to software sales, licensing, subscriptions, and revenue recognition.
Skills
Essential
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a Finance Manager or senior finance role.
- Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience using Xero accounting software is essential.
- Understanding of foreign currency transactions and multi-currency reporting.
- Experience within a software, SaaS, or technology business environment.
- Experience dealing with large organisations and corporate clients.
- Experience managing or mentoring junior finance staff.
- Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience with software revenue recognition and subscription-based billing models.
- Experience supporting international business operations.
- Experience with the tooling HubSpot and AdaptiveWork.
